About Me
Hey!
I am Martin, 23 year old guy, who is travelling in Latin America. I decided to spend several months backpacking in order to shoot a documentary about climate change and slow travel! This is the first time I use the platform (I will hopefully build up some reviews soon!)
In December 2022, I crossed the Atlantic from Europe to the Caribbean islands. I spent some time in Dominica, Martinique and Saint-Lucia before sailing to Santa Marta in Columbia. I am now slowly making my way towards Ecuador!
-- A little about me:
I finished my undergrad last december in Montréal, Canada, where I was studying Cognitive Science and Computer Science (lots of neuro, psyc etc). After graduating I spent two months in Madrid working in a coffee shop, so I got to brush up on my Spanish a little! Then I bikepacked for 2 weeks with my best friend across France, Germany and Switzerland. After that I went to Eswatini to help build a bridge that engineering students at my university designed! That was one of the best experiences in my life.
Now I want to travel for the first time in South America on my own before going into Master's in September. I need your help to find a roof along the way!
I look forward to meeting you!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I really want to meet open-minded and curious people and hopefully make friends everywhere I go! I have heard so many fun and unique stories about couchsurfing that I thought I'd give it a go! I also have to admit that if I had to spend every night in a hotel, I wouldn't be able to afford this trip.
Music, Movies, and Books
Big 60s, 70s, 80s fan! Beach boys, Beatles, Rolling Stones but also Lady Gaga and Angèle are artists I listen to on a daily basis. I've also gotten more into reggae and afropop recently.
As to movies, I am a huge fan of Xavier Dolan and Ozon movies among others. Favorites include Call me by your name, Interstellar and every movie that Hans Zimmer has composed for ahah
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Ooo I rarely get asked this question! I'd say that it was living in a village in Eswatini over the summer. Ten of us were living with a host family who mainly spoke siSwati and we would be working everyday on the bridge along 40 to 50 inhabitants! It was a lot of labour but so much satisfaction when everything came together, I also got to build life-long relationships there.
Teach, Learn, Share
I could teach you french, piano basics, how to make crepes or bread but what i'd love to is have a good discussion or share some music! You could help me with my spanish or also tell me about how people adapt to climate change where you live, since this is the topic of my documentary!
What I Can Share with Hosts
What's more fun than late-night talks about life, philosophy, human nature etc? But also would love to go hiking, swimming depending on what's nearby!
