About Me

Just a Korean living in American… 🇺🇸

Hello y’all, my name is Ian. I was born in Taejon, South Korea, and was adopted at four months by a family in Upstate New York, USA (Albany). Just recently I made it back to South Korea for the first time to explore my culture and heritage and also to visit the adoption agency that sent me to America (I am very open about my adoption so feel free to ask any question about that). 🇰🇷

Currently my mission is to travel the world (solo) while meeting as many people as I can and enjoy the foods of the local regions that I explore. Sometimes I feel like Anthony Bourdain at heart. If you had asked me three years ago if I would have traveled the world solo, that would’ve never been a thought. But now here I am and this is my passion in life! 🍱

One of the things I have recently realized is that being a traveler is a more of personality for me and I intend to stay committed to that. Also since I was 13 I realized I have a passion for flying. So as this year comes to a close end I will be heading down to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to finish off my last year of flight school and open up a new chapter in life as an airline transport pilot. 🧑🏻‍✈️

I’m a little shy at first but open up really quickly. If you see me on Couch Surfer, feel free to shoot me a message. I will always reply. I hope to meet many fun people on my adventures and make memories of a lifetime.🗽

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The main reason I am on Couch Surfer is to meet people who have similar interests and are as passionate about traveling as I am. Since I have joined Couch Surfer, I have met many wonderful people and have always had a positive experience with everyone I encountered. I have also learned this is a very good platform for travelers looking to explore areas off the beaten path where one would normally go in an organized tour group. 🏘️
Currently I have yet to be a guest, however I have hosted before and I was a fantastic experience. 🌃

Music, Movies, and Books

For music, I am a huge Bon Jovi fan although have never been to a Bon Jovi concert before. I really like a lot of 80’s rock and am also into country-western. My favorite movie is probably Act of Valor but Top Gun Maverick is a close second. Anything with action is good. Ernest Hemingway is my favorite author and one of my profile pictures was taken at his house in Havana, Cuba. 🏡

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling solo. :) 🧍🏻

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy opening my kitchen and cooking with Couch Surfers so we can share flavors of each other’s culture. For me, one of the best ways to get to know someone is over food. 🥘

What I Can Share with Hosts

I enjoy sharing my adventures stories and giving advice to people who have might have never traveled in a country I have been to. But really any conversation in general is a great thing to have and is something I can give hosts. 🗺️
