About Me

Hi, I’m Charlie!

Below was written last year, I’m now on a short trip in Granada, Spain. So let’s hang :)

——
I’m from the UK and I’m currently travelling Ecuador after four and a half amazing months in Colombia!

I started in Santa Marta and have come down to Ecuador by bus. On my travels in Colombia, i’ve volunteered in five different places, including a nature reserve in the jungle for a month, which was a profound experience! I’ve also volunteered at an eco lodge for a week and I’ve been exploring the north coast and Sierra Nevada areas.

I’ll start by saying that I’m a very relaxed and easygoing guy. I know myself as a warm person who is easy to get a long with. We’ll be guaranteed to have good chats and laughs :)

The first thing to know about me is that , I’m an artist , who is deeply passionate about creativity! I’m predominantly a musician. I play guitar, sing, play synthesisers and any instrument I can get my hands on! I’ve been writing songs and performing them since I was 16. I’m always writing music and I’m keen to share it with people I meet on my travels. I also love playing music or making with people at all levels of skill. I think that being ‘untrained’ of being a beginner at an art form can actually give you freedom to make something just as interesting as someone ‘trained’.

For around two years I’ve also been on an artistic path as an actor. I fell in love with acting after spontaneously making a short film with a friend. Since then I’ve found work in short films etc and had some profound experiences with acting. I’m also currently working on writing some film scripts on my travels.

I love hiking and nature. I’m partly on this trip to dedicate some time to deepening my connection with nature.

I’ve been practicing meditation and yoga for almost four years. I’m not an expert but can share what I know. I really value the benefits of meditation and enjoy talking about this.

I’m an open and spiritually minded person. I care deeply about self knowledge, and am always digging for more inner work! You’ll find me often writing reflections from the day in my journal or interpreting my dreams. Although sometimes it’s time to just ‘be’.

On this trip I’m really having a profound time… I’m feeling more present, open, full of love, connected to myself and others then I’ve ever felt before… so I look forward to meeting you!!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’ve been volunteering and am now joining Couchsurfing as I think it’s a great way to get really immersed in local culture, as well as to meet all kinds of people with a similar openness in mind. I just love meeting all kinds of people, understanding what they’re about, learning, teaching, connecting on a deep level and just simply sharing time together… I’ve just started using Couchsurfing, but I feel I totally get the spirit of it and am loving it so far.

Music, Movies, and Books

I was raised on a broad history of rock and punk music. Now I listen to really anything… often electronic, ambient. Some of my favourites are: Radiohead, PJ Harvey. Brian Eno. Lots and LOTS of music.

I love film. Current favourites: the director Paul Thomas Anderson. Charlie Kaufman. Joaquin Phoenix.

Many books too - I just read The Alchemist on my travels and found it deeply inspiring!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

With my old rock band, I performed hundreds of gigs across England and Europe playing my original songs! We even appeared in a feature film as ourselves!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I’d be really happy to show you some of my original music. I’d love to perform my songs if there is a guitar around. I can also share stories of what it’s like to be in a touring rock band.

I am also passionate about Jungian Psychology and have a kind of calling to train as a psychotherapist (when the time is right for me). I’ve been writing down and analysing my own dreams for four. On my travels, I’ve been starting to teach people how to begin working with their own dreams in this way.
so we can talk about this and I can share a bit of what I know about it, including how to get started :)
