About Me

Hii, I'm Gijs, I'm 18 years old and I live in the Netherlands. I'm studying journalism but I haven't found a job for it yet. Instead I'm currently working in the cinema, which counts for something! I'm (as far as I can say that about myself) easy to talk to and I can have a laugh easily as long as you're up for it as well!

I love to connect with people and to find out about their life stories. Short conversations or late night talking: I don't mind either :)
^Everything above includes partying as well ;)!

I love sports. I have played football for six years and atm I play table tennis. Apart from that I run, just recreational. But I have applied for a full 42km marathon!

Some other things I like randomly summed up:
Reading, Formula 1, hanging out with friends (who doesn't), going to the cinema, listening to music, exploring more of the world (though I haven't done that as much yet).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing to meet new people from totally different countries. Exploring other cultures and engaging with them while traveling is something I live for. We can easily laugh ánd have (deep going) conversations together. Couchsurfing could be thé best way to enrich ourselves as a species. As cheesy as that may sound, it is true tho ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC:
My music genres are all over the place. To give you a better idea about my music taste, here are some artists I enjoy listening to from different decades:
Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bruno Mars, Joshua Bassett, George Michael, REM, Artic Monkeys, Post Malone, Lost Frequencies, MARO, Queen, Avicii, John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Racoon.
And even after mentioning this list I don't think it is a correct representation of my music taste. For example, lounge/house music are great too, but they aren't in this list :)

MOVIES:
Though I like watching movies and I even work in the cinema, I do not really have a specific type I enjoy watching the most.

BOOKS:
I love reading books. I try to read every night before heading to bed. Either I read thrillers (Dan Brown and Lee Child are awesome writers) or books I can learn something from (think of psychology books).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last summer (2022), I traveled with my grandmother to family in Brazil. Literally a cultural shock compared to Europe. It was so awesome to 1. talk to all the family members that I have never/barely seen 2. amaze myself about the nature Brazil has to offer 3. experience a total different culture for the first *real* time in my life.
About the last part: that's why I see this trip as the start of my exploration of the world. Big words that I hope will come true!

Teach, Learn, Share

TEACH:
I of course can learn you Dutch ;). No but fr, I don't know if I can teach someone something specific, but I'm always open for answering questions (about my country, profession, taste in ..., anything :)).

LEARN:
I obviously want to learn about other people's lifestyles, culture, drive, music taste and so on. Having fun in general is what we all strive for, so if that's via going to a party or via a walk true a park, I don't mind!

SHARE:
I want to share all sorts of experiences with people from all over the world. And like I said, this could be done true a lot of different ways :D

What I Can Share with Hosts

I've thought about this for a little while now and to be honest, I have no clue. If I have to help with something, I'm always up for it! I'm staying at your place, so that's the least I could do for you :).
Apart from helping you with something (...), I think I'm not that difficult to be around with -I don't want to sound narcissistic forgive me xD.
