About Me

Hi!
I'm a friendly, easy-going, open-minded person, currently working as a technical writer in Budapest.
I have a master's degree in English Studies, I like to read (and talk about books!), draw portraits (take a look at my instagram if you are interested: robert_szokocs), do various sports (swimming, running, kayaking), travel and hike. I enjoy meeting new people and having honest and deep conversations.

I don't smoke.
I really like cats (dogs are OK too :)).
My dream destination is rural Japan.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've always liked to travel but I'm new to couchsurfing. Somebody recommended it to me so warmly that I couldn't resist giving it a try. :)
I did volunteer work in Portugal with Workaway and I thoroughly enjoyed having local hosts, so I imagine couchsurfing as a similarly fun experience.

Music, Movies, and Books

I mostly listen to Hungarian alternative rock (Platon Karataev, Blahalouisiana, Middlemist Red), punk rock (Sum41, Blink182), and some other well-known bands such as Red Hot Chili, Thirty Seconds To Mars, The Kills, The Dead Weather, Arctic Monkeys, Pendulum, The Prodigy, Lana Del Rey, etc.

In movies I prefer dramas but I am open to certain comedies as well. Some of my favourites are Snatch, In Bruges, LOTR, Paterson, Donnie Darko, Control, On Body and Soul, Detachment.

As for books, I usually read literature but I'm also into (epic) fantasy, philosophy and essays. A few of my favourite authors are Paul Auster, Haruki Murakami, Jose Saramago, Steven Erikson and László Krasznahorkai.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I tutored a boy from age 5 to 15. When we started he didn't know a word in English and he passed a C1 proficiency exam at the end.

Teach, Learn, Share

Let's swap good recipes and stories!

I can also teach you some phrases in Hungarian if you are interested in a challenge. ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I make good pizza, always happy to share it.
