Sobre mí

Hello everyone! First of all, I hope you’re well :)
So, my name is Iara, 24 yo and I’m from a small town in Brazil, but now I’ve been living in Netherlands for 1 year for an exchange.
You’re probably thinking “ok, you’re from BRAZIL, what are you doing living in a cold country???”, I know, I’ve heard that many times, but I think we need to try new experiences and new places!

I learned to collect things from my parents and they always said that “the best things to collect, are memories, because no one can steal your memories”. So now I’m trying to remember that during this year and I’m trying to go to new countries, meet new people and maybe make friends.
I believe that we need to live life and not survive in this world, and if you can travel and enjoy the little things with someone else, why not do it?

I’m usually shy, but if you start talking to me and understand my English (which isn’t very good), we can talk until the sun comes up. You can prepare your typical food for me or I can prepare typical Brazilian food for you. It’s an exchange of experiences. What's more beautiful than that?

But now, I think I’ve written too much, so if you wanna know more about me, I think I need to come over to your couch and there we can talk (respect always, this isn’t tinder, remember 😉).

Thank you for your time and attention here.
Kind regards, Iara :) (oh, yea, it’s iara, with an i, not Lara. But if it’s easier for you, you can call me “Lara”).

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I’m here, on Couchsurfing because I really wanna have more contact with other people.
I’ve been in a hostel, I think once in my life and, ok, it was nice, but it was very difficult for me to make friends there.

On my trip to Spain, I met a friend from Brazil, we talked a lot and, in another week, she was near my city in Netherlands. We had lunch together and she told me about Couchsurfing and said: “I think it’s nice for you because there you can make new friends and have more experiences in your life”. After that, I decided to give it a try and I’m here. I’m here to meet you and share experiences.

Música, películas y libros

I’m an eclectic person when you ask me about music. If you try to listen to my playlist, it will start with sertanejo (similar to country), then it will start playing pop, gospel, trap, blues, jazz, funk (typical Brazilian music and other Brazilian styles too) and it will provably end with Indie or melancholic music. Probably my favorite music is: Hey Jude.

I love romantic comedy movies and series. But my favorite movie is Mamma Mia. I think I prefer Mamma Mia 2 to 1. As for series, I love detective and romantic series. My favorite series is Anne with an e. I also love watching crime documentaries, but don’t invite me to watch horror movies, because I hate them.

When it comes to books, I like to read all kinds of stories. But my favorite genre is about love and the physical mind. I can talk to you about my favorite books by Colleen Hoover.

Algo increíble que he hecho

It’s very difficult for me to think of some of the incredible things I’ve done. Idk what’s incredible.
I can tell you that, when I was a kid, I put my finger in the blender because I didn’t believe my dad when he said “the blender can cut”, and I said “no, the blender mixes”. And.. yea, I put my finger there.

Or I could say that when the pandemic hit (Covid-19), my mother and I sewed protective masks and I went around the city handing them out to people who couldn’t afford them.
I was also responsible for doing the shopping in the supermarkets so that the elderly didn’t have to go and expose themselves to the virus.

I can also tell you about my experience of long-distance dating for seven years. I had to drive around 8 hours to see my ex-boyfriend.
And I can tell you about when I managed to buy my apartment at the age of 22.
But I think the best and most incredible thing I did for myself, was this exchange.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I believe that we are in this world to learn, teach and share everything. I can learn from and about your culture. Just as you can learn about my culture. We can learn and teach together. It’s about sharing things and experiences.

I’m a curious person, so if you start telling me about your country, I’d probably love to learn about it. And if you start asking me about Brazil, I’ll love to teach you about my culture.

Qué puedo ofrecer a los anfitriones

As you can see from other topics, I can offer you my experience, my life stories and my culture.
I can cook you Brazilian food, show you Brazilian music and I make you laugh.

And, of course, I can offer you some fun words in Portuguese (Brazilian Portuguese)!
