About Me

I’m Timotheus — 🏢 serial entrepreneur, 🥢 relentless foodie, and someone who can't resist a good nighttime city view.

By day, I acquire and scale businesses. By night, I'm usually hunting down the best under-the-radar local food spots and finding a quiet place to take it all in.
Full disclosure:

I'm all about a breathtaking city view, but I’m definitely not much of a hiker. My ideal evening involves grabbing some incredible local takeout, finding a rooftop or an easy-to-reach hill, and just watching the city lights or the stars.

I also love photography—I'm strictly an amateur without any fancy equipment, but I really enjoy capturing the vibe of a place. For some reason, I’ve always loved the night more than the daytime. There’s a calmness to it—the world slows down a bit, and it makes it so much easier to just be present.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’ve been incredibly blessed to travel all the time—both growing up and later for work. A huge turning point for me was living in New Zealand for 6 to 8 months.

I backpacked around Oceania and saw a completely different side of the world that I never thought I’d get to experience.

If you travel enough, you know exactly what I’m talking about: every time you hit the road, it shifts something in your soul in a rich, positive way. Every trip is its own incredibly unique experience. But eventually, you realize that it's not just about seeing new places.

By connecting with like-minded people—sharing stories, experiencing their cultures, and hearing their unique perspectives—it enriches your soul and your memories so much more than just taking pictures ever could. That's exactly why I'm here.

Music, Movies, and Books

🎬 Movies: Anything directed by Christopher Nolan. Whether it's Inception, Interstellar, or The Oppenheimer, if it has a mind-bending plot and incredible cinematography, I'm in.

🎧 Music: My playlist completely depends on my mood and the city I'm in. I'll give almost any genre a listen, but I have a massive soft spot for that golden era of 2012-2015 EDM.

📚 Books: To be honest, I spend so much time reading business, strategy, and market analysis for work that when I travel, I don't read a ton of fiction. I’d much rather sit down and swap real-life stories with people. That said, if you have a great recommendation for a biography or something that shifts your perspective, I'm all ears.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’ve been traveling my whole life, but the most incredible chapter so far was definitely backpacking through the North and South Islands of New Zealand.

While I was there, I fully embraced the adrenaline capital of the world. I threw myself off the infamous Nevis Bungy Jump, followed it up with the Nevis Swing, and went skydiving above the clouds. The adrenaline rush and those breathtaking views were completely indescribable.

Also, I know I said in my intro that I'm not a hiker... but I made one massive exception for the Roy's Peak track. Making that climb just to sit up there at the top, see the Milky Way, and watch shooting stars light up the night sky is easily one of the most surreal and beautiful things I’ve ever experienced.

Teach, Learn, Share

🛠 Teach:
I was a chef for 10 years and managed over a dozen restaurants, so I can definitely teach you your way around a kitchen! If you have any questions regarding cooking or food, I am happy to help and give more insight into it. On the professional side, I'm a serial entrepreneur. If you have a startup idea, want to talk business strategy, or just want to pick my brain about sales and scaling companies, I'm always open to sharing my experiences.

🌍 Learn:
I want to learn about your city through your eyes—especially the food scene. Show me your favorite under-the-radar spots, teach me how to make your favorite regional dish, or just point me toward the best quiet hill to watch the city light up at night.

🤝 Share:
Great conversations over incredible food. I’m always down to swap wild stories from the road or the business world, discuss different cultures, and share a laid-back evening taking in the city views.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Since I spent years working in the hospitality industry, the most practical thing I bring is a deep respect for your home and your space. I'm a tidy, low-maintenance guest who knows how to read a room—whether you want to stay up late swapping stories or you just need some quiet time to decompress after work.

Beyond good energy and a lot of wild stories from the startup world and my travels, I'm always happy to treat my host to a meal at a local under-the-radar food spot. I also love bringing along a few snacks from my travels or my Dutch-Chinese roots to share over a drink while we take in the city views.
