About Me
Hello! My name is Merve, and I’m a PhD candidate in Translation Studies. I completed my Master’s degree in English Language and Literature. Currently, I’m volunteering in Romania with the European Solidarity Corps, where I’m working on projects that bring communities together.

Music, Movies, and Books
Sometimes I find myself listening to metal or rock, especially when I need energy. On rainy days, I prefer the soothing vibes of jazz. When I’m walking outside, pop music keeps me upbeat, and while studying or writing, soundtracks are my go-to for focus and inspiration.
I’m a big fan of psychological and psychological horror films. Favorites include Mr. Nobody, Get Out, Panic Room, and 1408. I love movies that challenge my mind, keep me on the edge of my seat, and spark deep reflection.
As a literature master’s graduate, I’m deeply passionate about feminist literature. My favorites include The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, The Second Sex by Simone de Beauvoir, and A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf. I also admire George Orwell’s works for their sharp critiques of society, particularly 1984 and Animal Farm. Historical fiction, classics, and thought-provoking literature are always on my reading list.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was in Oradea, Romania, for an Erasmus exchange program. While most students returned to their home countries, I chose to stay in Romania to complete my studies, even after the dormitory was closed. During that time, I stayed at my (then) crush’s house for four months. After the program ended, I brought him to Turkey with me, and now, five years later, we’re still together and living in Romania!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach Turkish and English, help with creative writing, and dissertation. I’m eager to learn local recipes, traditions, and phrases in your language. I can share stories from my travels, my knowledge of sustainable living practices, and insights from my work as an English teacher, editor and translator.
