ABOUT ME

I couldn't change my profile name, but currently this couch surfing profile is dedicated to me, Waveney and my mother, Eileen - as mum and I are doing a trip together. I have been couch surfing since 2006 but its mum's first time - and she is really excited about it.

Mum is awesome! She's a young 68, who loves family - including geneology. She wrote a book about our family tree and has brought me up with stories of our ancestors in Denmark, Scotland and England. But mum isn't much of a traveller so this is her first time adventuring past Australia. Usually she can be found in the garden, tending her heritage roses or spending time with her grandchildren and / or the rest of us. She is a retired school financial officer.

I am working full time at Auckland Council, I'm a Waste Minimisation Advisor - which is all about working out how we can get Aucklanders to recycle, compost and reduce their waste. I also take this message home - my husband and I live without a rubbish bin and manage to run our home completely rubbish free. Well - 95%.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Mum and I are currently traveling and my husband and I occasionally host when in New Zealand.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I was a kid and Dad used to bring home stranded cycle tourists. (Ones who hadn't made it far enough that day and were stuck in our small town). I loved talking to them and sometimes they would give me some trinket from the other side of the world. Wow! I remember being so excited. Matthew and I have surfed in Toronto, Canada, Denmark, New York and ... ?? We had a blast.

Interests

Waveney: enjoy people, beaches, sailing, camping, art, all sorts of animals (especially furry ones), mountains, forests, markets and whatever else I happen upon.

Eileen: Gardening, family history, church going, accounting, knitting and cross stitch embroidery.

Matty: Rock climbing, people watching, surfing (Pacific ocean styles) and mtn biking, and conversations.

W: Holding a baby tiger was pretty cool.
M: Being amongst Komodo Island Dragons with the only thing between them and their dinner (AKA me) was a fiesty local with a stick.
