Music, Movies, and Books

i prefer non-fiction books, but fiction movies, i like modern classical music, especially more avant-garde stuff, electronica, NOT electro, conscious hip hop, post-industrial grime, innovative talent of the international underground, experimental acoustic, mechanical harps, music that speaks to me, music that I havn't heard before, music that I will never hear again, music of the forests, music of the spheres, yet conversely the noise of the city and silence

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Living in a community in the Amazon rainforest has got to be up there near the top..

Teach, Learn, Share

The author Steven Mithen, highlights that amazonian tribes have a similar way of pronouncing a word for big fish and little fish, and that the mouth naturally forms a particular shape for these words. He surmises that the similarity in sound-pattern suggests that there is some intrinsic meaning in language, and that the sound patterns that we use for words are not necessarily arbitrary. I love this!
