About Me

CURRENT MISSION

try to be useful and happy, to make other people happy too

ABOUT ME

I'm a belgian occasional traveller.
A large part of my days is about trying to make the belgian ground a bit cleaner...
Walking in the city or in the countryside, travelling every day in the last years by train, tram, metro, busses, between home and job gave me some time to read, listen to music and simply think.
I'm very attached to my family and its values.
So I share with pleasure my life between Brussels and my beloved countryside.
I'd like to have extra-time to go outside and travel with friends. Maybe I can do it during my few holidays!

PHILOSOPHY

When I have to make a choice, I often follow Epicure (but not the hedonists) which means that risk is not what I prefer...
About social life, helpfullness or about passion, I have my own personal models that could become saints.
About personal annoying things, I would keep them away as long as possible, stay positive and find a good solution as a matter of urgency when I can't do else.
I'm always "aware" and available for anyone.
I like to find the positive side of everything, keep my mind open and open some minds when possible.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host a friend, encourage friends to try CS
When the occasion comes up, I like to let discover some places of Belgium I like, to visitors, friends of my friends, not especially met via CS.com

And few days ago, we did it! We hosted our 1st CS in Brussels with my flatmate Muriel. Nice experience as well.

Since then, the composition of the flat share has evolved a bit but we still have this same shared flat profile: https://www.couchsurfing.org/people/surfingparadis/

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Austria was my 1st "couchsurfing" experience as a traveller. CS next experiences in Portugal were evenly sucessful and confirmed to me that visiting places as a guest of friends rather than as tourist: I like it 10000x more.

Since summer 2011, we've thus decided to host as well with my flatmates in Brussels: be welcome!

Interests

Environnement and technics, an interest that became my job.
Humanism and sustainability: a goal that I try to live and develop with other people in the everyday life
Music, especially live music.
Sports, individual but mainly collective: It's much easier to share a defeat and such a huge pleasure to win together!
History, reading, languages, ...
I'm an eternal learner and listener.

Music, Movies, and Books

"That thing you do": the best movie to watch, drumming on an armchair with chopsticks (I very recently dug up a vintage drum from the cellar and started drum courses with real sticks!).
"Tintin in Tibet", a great friendship story drawn by my favourite "ligne clair" artist!
"Music": don't hesitate to discover belgian artists in general. Don't hesitate to go to a concert of Raphael Saadiq or Christine And The Queens if you feel like moving and being hot to contagious sounds & rhythms, to a concert of Jeanne Added if you're open to letting your soul be perfectly shaken by a variety of styles and energies, or to discover the elegant and refined melodies of the French-British artist Emily Loizeau, her piano and her voice do directly speak to your core.

These days, Maissiat, La Roux and Chvrches have been heating up my ipod.

I also like to discover new acts or oldies via via or on vinyl records. I came for example across good old stuff by Shuggie Otis, Booker T or Oscar Peterson.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I drink chocolate with spaghetti-bolo.
I'm the reincarnation of Hergé.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want to speak, I can show you how to listen.
If you want to improve your French, I can talk with you.
If you want some info about Belgium or environment, maybe I can help you.
I'm open to learn almost anything from you!
I recently tested and enjoyed repairing old armchairs with my grandpa. I also learned how to cane chairs from an artisan and I would be glad to make this knowledge sharing chain a little longer. Trying to fix an old turntable these days... only the arm is still reluctant to behave.
