About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Currently travelling for four months (till November - hosting again from Jan 2025! Send me a message if planning a trip for after then!), passing through UAE, Oman, Europe, Bolivia, Peru, USA and Vanuatu (whirlwind trip including seeing friends in many places, weddings, exploring new destinations, and seeing Sigur Ros play in the USA!).

ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm a 37 yr old Australian who loves music, travel, being outdoors and being active! I’m also fond of having the occasional drink and a laugh with mates and playing a bit of sport (particularly hiking, running, soccer and AFL). I studied health sciences at uni (psych, nutrition and health promotion) and started a masters of education before deciding I wasn’t sure if it was suited to me- now I'm considering going back to uni to do something else. I spent 5 years working in the UK civil service and now that I'm back in Melbourne have returned to disability support work, where I will soon be approaching 20 years of on-again-off-again experience! I have also spent time volunteering and working with people seeking asylum in Australia, and recently completed a vintage at a winery in Sth Australia which was interesting!

PHILOSOPHY

I'm forever learning about myself and the world around me so as of yet this is not fully determined- but it would be something along the lines of keeping an open mind an embracing new and interesting experiences, whilst striving to be kind and hospitable to others and the world around me! I strive to be a kind, compassionate person who is reflective of the way my behaviour and actions influence those around me!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting (although sadly not recently), providing useful info if and when I can, and surfing!! I've had a bit of a hiatus for a while now as life distracted me and my couch surfing experience sat collecting dust for some time, but I'm keen to get involved again now!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I’ve couchsurfed all over Europe, sometimes through this website and sometimes just with great people I’ve met, and I’ve also hosted a bunch of great people from various places around the world : )

Interests

My biggest interests/loves/passions would have to be:

Music (listening to, playing, writing)

Nature - hiking, camping, running, being with friends, anything in nature is so good for the mind, body and soul!

Travelling - one of my great passions - there isn't a place I'd be interested to visit! Just too many places to get to!

Sport, and generally being active. Spent almost 20 years playing soccer (indoor and out), love AFL as a spectator (and love kicking a footy!), cycling, enjoy table tennis and follow cricket, although as I get older my interest in sport wanes a little. Probably partially because I love being involved more than spectating, and having been an incredibly active person my whole life, I'm starting to develop many long term injuries that are impacting my ability to be involved.. don't get old!

Socialising - I'm very social and love hanging out with friends! Making new ones, chatting with anyone and everyone!

Reading, learning, hanging out in the sun, hot days, drinking craft beer or other nice drinks on hot days, good books on hot days, almost anything on hot days, random facts and trivia… the list could be endless : )

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There is no one thing I can think of that really stands out high above all else or deserves special mention; rather, a whole heap of amazing experiences sprinkled throughout the years, a very high % of which would involve travelling and meeting wonderful people, and seeing incredible live music (Sigur Ros would have to be the stand out in that department - seen them perhaps 19 times and counting :P)! But to give something less vague, I volunteered with people seeking asylum on christmas island and in darwin, and that was very special.
I also overcame a strongly ingrained phobia of deep water to discover a love of scuba diving!

Teach, Learn, Share

share/teach- i play guitar and piano and I love all kinds of music- some that people may know, some that they may not! i like to think and learn about things.. almost anything! Learn- languages! more cool bands.. anything!!
