About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To leave only footprints and be happy

ABOUT ME

I've been in Brisbane for nearly 2 years now after living in the Northern Territory for 6 years in the outback and short 18 month stint in Spain.
I love being outdoors in the sunshine and sharing good food and laughs.
I'm studying at the moment and working full time so my weeks seem to be very full and I like relaxing on weekends not doing too much.
In theory I like reading but don't get to do much of it! Also like getting out in the garden and going to music gigs.

PHILOSOPHY

I think life is to be lived to the fullest, enjoyed and cherished... and that there's no point making it harder for other people so let's just all be happy!! And we can ensure that by being happy ourselves... I live to connect.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

One of my favourite mottos is "brighten the corner you're in"... What better way than giving people the opportunity to see your country and share in your culture?? I hosted lots and lots of people when I lived in the NT but I'm not in a position to host at the moment, I just like staying connected with the CS community and the friends I've made through it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

MY favourite couchsurfing experiences are those where I get to properly meet other people and learn about them and their culture where we share meals and experiences together. My couchsurfing experience in India has left me lifelong friends who I just visited after staying with them 4 years ago. There are other people I have hosted who I know I could contact out of the blue and we could meet up like no time has passed. For me that's what CS is all about.

Interests

I'm an outdoors girl. Love hiking, camping, sport... and am also into yoga and meditation.. trying to keep a balance!! Love travelling, meeting new people, good movies, inspiring books and new experiences!! And I love food and everything to do with it. Very interested in healthy eating and sugar-free living and the obesity epidemic that is occurring in the Western World.
I love my AFL as well and am a long time St Kilda supporter, which is often a labour of love.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have to admit I'm a sucker for the corny romantic movies, but I also love those mind-messing films like Being John Malkovich, Donnie Darko, Adaptation... oh and also love American Beauty, High Fidelity, Cinema Paradiso, Amelie, Todo sobre mi madre.. yeah I'm a big softie. Recently saw Food Inc and it blew my mind.
Books: love a bit of Jane Austen, Sophie's World is one of my faves, The Alchemist, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Anna Karenina, I recently conquered War and Peace!! Any interesting auto/biographies, anything by Ian McEwan...I seem to read lots of non-fiction too.. biographies and things related to my work and interests in alternative education...
Like all kinds of music....bit patriotic though and have been known to send friends Aussie Tunes compilations!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Too many to mention!! sunrises and sunsets in beautiful places, hiking up big mountains, skydiving on the coast of spain, vipassana meditation... the list goes on. quite a blessed life really.

Teach, Learn, Share

Everything in the universe changes. Everything. Eventually.

Teach: I can share my knowledge about Australian Aboriginal culture, but I still have so much to learn. Um, I used to be an English teacher, so happy to correct your English! A bit of yoga, vegetarian cooking...??

To see if an avocado is ripe, push the top near the stem, not the body... you'll just squish it!! If it's not ripe, put it in a paper bag with a ripe banana... (I love avocadoes!!)

Learn: At the moment I'm keen to learn anything about organic gardening; always love to learn new recipes; have a ukelele that needs to be played so you can teach me how to play it! Like learning of new music and films, I'm interested in anything really...

Share: some yoga practice, cooking/recipes, gardening if you're keen...
