About Me

Hello hello my name is Ray and I'm a former world traveler now settled down and studying. I guess I'm like a neighborhood and regional traveler now. I love camping, backpacking, being outside, gardening, playing music. Lots of things!

I used Couch Surfing for years in the early days and am just now in a stable enough place where I can *maybe* *perhaps* offer a place for fellow travelers and give back what I was given.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I had the great fortune of graceful approaches and offerings of midnite blankets in San Francisco, Boston, Belem, New York, Charlotte, Charleston, Savannah, Nashville, Asheville, Denver, Mexico City, all by nice folks who agreed I'd look better with a shower + shave.

In today's disruptive start-up culture (especially here in the Bay Area) I think it's more important than ever that we work together to share resources!

Music, Movies, and Books

antiquity. Just ask if you're really curious!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Cherokee spirits in Charleston, South Carolina enchanted Spanish moss to devour me with its Gothic draperies and capture me a prisoner of the Southern live oak: a fly in a spiders web. I slept there 1,000 years when Hernando Vasquez of The Hounds trailblazers noteriety kindly cut me down before riding away with a smoky countenance and distant tambourine jangle.

I saw a monkeyman nude in the amazon jungle holding a blank cardboard sign and muttering "spare change?"

(I think I wrote this in my early twenties probably coming down off acid but I do really enjoy Southern Spanish moss and have been to the Amazon . . .)

Teach, Learn, Share

Stories of the Old West when I was a young gun slinger from Abilene, TX or conversations with Einstein in Georgia, or when I fled in fright from Satan's own daughter on the banks of the bloody Charles River, or baying Mexican howler monkeys have you swearing something awful gonna happen when you sleep, rancid corn on the cob, broken down vw on hairpin panajachel two-lane blind cornerin' mountain road, and pink amazonian dolphins while me with a pinker eyeball, and of course the foxes of london, troll-stained norwegian log cabin white glow-in-the-dark moss abound, grass on the roofs, red light districts here there & everywhere.

. . .We can discuss more. For now I'm on a path to study linguistics with a special interest in language revitalization and power dynamics as seen through a sociolinguistics lens. That isn't complicated; most people have thoughts on it probably without realizing!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to garden, love to go on walks/hikes, I seek the wonder in the every day, love intercultural communication, discussing life from high- to low-brow, cooking, playing music, you need a hand around the house? I'm your guy.
