Am founder of 18 grassroots organizations and campaigns, author of 7 books on grassroots organizing. Taught urban studies at Temple University, and Ecological Economics at Philadelphia University. Have traveled extensively in U.S and Mexico/Central America. Hitchhiked extensively, years ago. Walked across the United States and stayed with many families.

Interests

Dancing, singing, cartooning, bicycling, hiking, chess. Community organizing-- getting people together to meet their needs with least reliance on distant boardrooms and capital.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Walked across USA entirely on foot, started local currency traded by thousands, started health co-op for uninsured, started orchard project, started community newspapers, etc.
