About Me

ABOUT ME

Life is pretty good! I grew up on a small farm, but lived most of my adult years in the big city of New York where I worked as a fashion technician for a popular brand. lived in Brooklyn with my husband Lewis who is a fellow couchsurfer (it is how we met!). We were very active CSers during the time we spent in NY and hosted frequently. We both quit our jobs in 2014 to travel, mostly by bicycle. We rode from Las Vegas all the way to Ecuador, in fact! We traveled for 3.5 years before we decided to settle down again, this time in New Zealand. As soon as we have a welcoming home, we will be hosting again!

PHILOSOPHY

Take it easy! Sit back and enjoy this ride to the fullest. If you want something, go for it! Its easier to get than you think. Be fearless! Go out and have an adventure. Surrender to the flow, and most importantly, whatever you do, take care of your shoes!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love to travel, and love to taste the local flavor of a place... go off the beaten "touristy" path, you could say. Not that I don't love the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum, & the Golden Gate Bridge as much as the next tourist, but I really want to know what's going on behind the scenes! I love a chance encounter with a local who sweeps me off the path even farther than I ever expected to go. I'm not here to save a few bucks, I'm here to start new friendships, and it works both ways! I look forward to meeting you!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My biggest couchsurfing experience was when I was 22... I spent over a month driving a big circle around my country by myself, coast to coast, and even into Canada. Along the way, I met so many wonderful people who were generous enough to offer their couches to me and eager to show or at least tell me what their town had to offer. I never had a plan or schedule, I just breezed through as it felt right, and lingered longer where the relationships were stronger and the people warmer. It was a life-changing trip and I have been itching to do it again!

Interests

travel (duh), hiking, steath camping, hammocks, snowboarding, drawing, sewing, painting, live music, festivals, strategy games, hookah, roller coasters, 4-wheelers, good beer, eating, breathing, drinking coffee, dancing! free spirits.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love live music, especially blues, funk, jazz & bluegrass. Really getting into live electronic rock these days. I also love hearing the cultural music of wherever I am visiting. My absolute favorite band is Phish... ridiculously fun experience. PHISH!!!

I'm a "Lord of the Rings" fan, books and movie.

Other books: everything Vonnegut, everything Tolstoy, Hitchhikers Guide, A Short History of Nearly Everything, Les Miserables, Hubble Space Telescope (AMAZING pictures)... so much more.

Other movies: Django Unchained, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Reality Bites, Kill Bill, Labyrinth, The Princess Bride, Romeo & Juliet (modern version), Napoleon Dynamite, Eagle vs Shark, The Host, Head On (Gegen die Wand), Fight Club, Gladiator, Team America (fuck yeah!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

More than one because life is amazing! Bicycling from the USA to South America. Riding across Manhattan on the back of a Harley. Hitch-hiking around Jamaica at the tender age of 19. Watching fireworks from a sailboat in the Long Island Sound. Falling in love. Living 11 years in New York!!!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can sew if you really want to know... or if you need someone to mend your shirt! I can also teach you some very special dance moves! I collected a bit of knowledge about bicycle maintenance on my last great journey and am happy to share.

I am eager to learn the ins and outs of illustration, and would like to learn the techniques of screen printing.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can make a decent breakfast, and a pretty delicious guacamole. I hope to offer good company and fun stories. If I have enough downtime, I would love to paint or draw you a picture, or make you a little craft, or mend your favorite whatever... please give me something creative to do! :)
