About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Study contamination and river restoration

ABOUT ME

I'm a grad student! I'm dorky, creative, scientific, responsible, relaxed about everything except my research, and am always happy to go down to a pub and talk about the day. I drink coffee, I don't really eat meat, I'm a fabulous cook when I've got the time to shop and do the prep work, and I adore chocolate.

At home, I've got a really funny cat. I don't smoke. Somehow, I found myself at a French school in Texas, so now I speak French, Potuguese, and a little bit of Spanish. I'm learning Dutch. If I weren't a scientist, I'd probably be an art scholar.

PHILOSOPHY

The Golden Rule is still a pretty good one.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We all know that hotels are expensive. My couch here in Austin has hosted many traveling musicians, especially during southbysouthwest, the big music festival. The new AustinCityLimits Festival is during the hottest part of the summer, but it's fun. For years, I lived in co-operative housing and we often hosted domestic and international travelers, including performers and musicians. With 26 housemates, you had to learn how to have a good time and treat everyone with respect. It was a great experience during my college years.
I started couchsurfing the summer of 2007 and have met amazing hosts and new friends in Belgium and the Netherlands. I'm looking forward to returning the favor.

Interests

Rivers! Yes, I really do study rivers for a living.Other interests include cooking (especially waffles on the weekends!), photography, going to see live music, riding my old bicycle, and finding time to have a beer after work, especially on a nice evening.
I went to an international school, so I've been speaking French since I was in 8th grade. I'm very comfortable reading it and having dinner-table conversations. While I can't say that I speak Portuguese as fluently, I studied it a bit in school.

Music, Movies, and Books

Modern art is my favorite. Joseph Cornell, Alexander Calder, Jasper Johns, Picasso, Magritte. Great architecture. The new library in Seattle by Koolhaus was just stunning!

Teach, Learn, Share

Native Texans are Proud Texans. Like Lady Bird Johnson, I aim to be a good host and make sure you have a real nice time here in my home state. While I can't teach you how to rope a steer, I *can* teach you the fine differences between saying y'all and all y'all.
