ABOUT ME

I am a US citizen residing in Denmark for the last 45 years. Fell for a blondie, got a good job and stayed.
Lots of blondies here.
Worked for 25 years in the travel business, primarily in a trade association -as opposed to retail- for organizations specializing in travel by air for students and youth. Originally they were the travel sections of national student unions, but now they are all "commercial" entities, if they haven't collapsed in the meantime.
Got chopped in a re-organization and spent the next six
years on and off managing the most popular Mexican restaurant here in Copenhagen. I say on and off as the owner (my good buddy) fired me a couple of times as my sense of humor and the Danish sense of humor didn't always correspond. But -hey! - business is business and friendship is friendship. He's still my good buddy but bailed out to sunny Mexico a couple of years ago.
I am now retired. Have saved up enough loot to not have to worry about where the next meal is coming from.
Am single so I can eat popcorn for dinner if I want to. Stay here in Copenhagen as I have a daughter and a granddaughter here. We're tight PLUS moving back to the States is TOO complicated.

PHILOSOPHY

Use it up, make it do, do without
Pay attention
Use spell-check
We have met the enemy and he is us

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

The first time I took a trip abroad was with my college roommate in 1964 to Europe. We used Frommer's "Europe on 5 Dollars a Day." Yep - 5 bucks covered a room and three squares per day - AND you could do it! Five bucks won't get you a cup of coffee in Copenhagen nowadays.
Anyway, once we started our travels we soon learned that it wasn't WHAT we saw that made a difference but WHO we met. Meeting the locals turned us on to how to really get to know a country. We learned through personal contact. Sure there were language barriers from time to time but you get over it.
By making my couch available I'd like to think that I can help you understand Denmark a little better and - especially if you're an English speaker - in a more comprehensive way.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first couch surfing experience was in the summer of 1964 when my roommate David and I ran into a guy called Patric in a bar on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. Patric spoke English which was a help and turned out that his parents were out of town so would we like to crash at his place? Would we? After sleeping three to a bed (David's buddy Femino from R.I. had shown up)in some flea bag hotel near the train station, yessir!
Little did we know that there were two Swedish girls there before us (went up to Gothenburg afterwards and stayed with one of them), plus an Italian guy and Patric's SO. Great apartment with balcony, excellent meals, GOOD TIMES.
Next experience was here in CPH (while on the way to Gothenburg - see above) when I ran in to a beautiful blond, went back to her place for a party and wound up couch surfing for two days while her BF was shown the door. All kinda OK cause we got married two years later. Divorced five years later but that's another story.
