About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To do one near perfect thing.

ABOUT ME

For the past five years, I've been teaching ESL in Asia and bouncing from job to job, country to country. I'm beginning to feel a bit like a "hobo with a passport" but each moment has been poignant and riddled with adventure. I travel not only because I want to but also because I feel compelled to. People often remark, "Wow, travelling/living abroad takes courage, bravery etc." and while I'm happy for the compliment, I couldn't see an alternative way to be and don't consider it a mark of bravery but one of only insatiable curiousity about the world on whole.

PHILOSOPHY

"Err in haste, repent at leisure."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couchsurfed through Eastern Europe and Muscat. Now I'm happy to welcome travelers to my house in Ibra!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I began my "unofficial" couchsurfing in Moscow when i was lost in the airport & a lovely couple took me in for the evening. This continued in Kazakhstan when my taxi driver didn't know where to take me, got frustrated, and dropped me by the side of the road. All looked helpless until two teachers (Olga & Olga) said I could crash for the night--otherwise I'd still be in Almaty roaming the streets w/ a look of complete dispair on my face. Officially I began couchsurfing when I met a member of this community in Estonia who encouraged me to join.

Interests

traveling, reading, writing, striking up random conversations w/ strangers, camping....i'm afraid none of these are quite original, but hey, its what makes me tick.

Music, Movies, and Books

I recently picked up a book by Bill Bryson, The Life & Times of Thunderbolt Kid. I laughed like an idiot everytime I turned the page. Also, It happened In Boston? by Russel H. Greenan is an all time fave. And Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole (or O'Toole) is the must read of our century. My music taste is ecclectic--any thing from folk to top 40 and everything in between. Movies: Gone With The Wind, Amores Perros, Rope, Shennendoah, Freeway--to name the first ones to come to mind as favorites.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling on the Mekong for two days on a slow boat from Laos to Thailand.

Teach, Learn, Share

I fancy myself an expert of sorts in the ESL work circut--especially in Asia. I leap at any opportunity to pass on information whether it be conventional wisdom, to contact names/schools etc. to anyone with the vaguest interest in teaching abroad.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bangladesh, Bermuda, Cambodia, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Estonia, Ethiopia, Hungary, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Russian Federation, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan
