About Me

I am friendly and I love to meet new people. I am pretty laid back and I love to try new things. I grew up and lived in Los Angeles for most of my life. Aside from Los Angeles, I have lived in Oregon, London, and the Philippines. I am Chinese from the Philippines so growing up, I picked up both cultures. Professionally, I was in the advertising industry as an account executive. I decided to go back to school to get my MBA so that is what I will be doing starting August 2015. In the mean time, I am getting my traveling on!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I had studied abroad in London, England while in college and that was when I had first experienced Couchsurfing. I loved traveling already but Couchsurfing brought on a whole different experience. I love meeting new people and learning about everyone's culture and experiences and Couchsurfing provides that platform while traveling!

Interests

Almost anything. Except eating monkey brain and a developing duck embryo (both delicacies in the asian culture). I love the outdoors, but hate bugs (go figure). I love being around people (especially people with a great sense of humor) and learning about things I have no clue about.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I originally loved to listen to "happy" music but as I got older, I started to appreciate music that can get to your soul. I love listening to raspy female vocalists like Amy Winehouse. I also love blues/rock bands like Little Hurricane. I love dancing to hip-hop and 90's alternative. When on the road, I love listening to "new" folk bands like the Lumineers, the Head and the Heart and Trampled by Turtles. I'm all over the place. Basically, I appreciate good music when I hear it.

Movies: I have to admit, I am not a huge movie buff. But only because I rarely get the chance to get to a theatre. But I've got to say that I looovvve popcorn action flicks. I'll watch the Avengers any day. And I'll even admit that the last Fast and the Furious was really fun.

Books: There is just something about mysteries that I enjoy. But there is also something about mysteries that turns me into a paranoid person in the time frame I am reading the book. James Patterson, Michael Connelly, J.D. Robb to name a few. I usually don't stray from mysteries on the non-fiction end but I was introduced to Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere and wow it was good! On my path to be more business-oriented, I have been reading more boring, business-y fiction books as well but no one wants to hear about those!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's hard to pinpoint since I am easily amazed by all the awesome things this world has to offer, but canyoneering in Zion, Utah has got to be (so far) one of the most amazing, exhausting and gratifying things I've seen and done!

Teach, Learn, Share

As I get older, I appreciate more things this world has to offer.

I am learning that everything is about perspective. And that at the end of the day, it is what it is and life goes on. That Cafe du Monde's coffee is by far my favorite and highly recommended. That the gratification you get from shopping is instantaneous but temporary in comparison to the gratification you get from experiences. And both are hard on my wallet. That trying to find your passion is a pain in the ass. But just going with the flow with no ambition of a passion is even more of a pain in the ass.

Keep learning. Don't take life too seriously, enjoy it while you can.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Whatever stories you want to hear. My respect for you and your place (so long as that respect is returned, of course). My sarcasm and humor, if you're into that (and if not, I promise I will keep quiet). And marketing/advertising advice if you really want to get down to business.
