About Me
ABOUT ME
I'm 35 and love to travel. I am fairly varied in my interests and can adapt to different environments. I like most kinds of music and am as happy doing shots in a bar at 5am as I am going to the Opera or having a meal in a 'posh' restaurant or simply going for a walk around the park.
I am polite and respectful and try to empathise with people. At the same time I have a dry sense of humour and like to have fun. I am very open-minded and have a wide range of friends (mixed ethnicities, nationalities, sexualities, educational levels, single, married, with/without kids etc etc) and am always happy to add to my circle. I like to think that I am warm and approachable and easy to get on with.
PHILOSOPHY
It's all about the journey and the people you meet along the way I think.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
So far I have surfed and met up with CS-ers in cities, but not been able to host - I hope this changes in the future.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have attended CS meet-ups in NYC and surfed in the USA, Kenya, S. Korea and Japan. I have had nothing but fantastic experiences with kind, generous people and would love to host myself one day when I am in a position to do this.
Interests
Having a background as a social researcher I'm interested in the world around me and the people in it and I care very much about what happens to them. My politics are firmly on the left and in terms of religion I become interested in Buddhism three years ago. I am open to meeting anyone regardless of their beliefs, but my own principles are important to me too.
I enjoy going to the pub (how British) and for meals, to the theatre, cinema, art galleries, walks in the park, generally socialising and meeting new people.

Music, Movies, and Books
I love movies from big, blockbuster Hollywood ones through to foreign language films, Indie and arthouse. Similarly, I like a wide range of music and am not into any one genre. So, pop, rock, hip hop, classical, opera, jazz, blues, show tunes... I like it all! If it's toe-tapping it's probably up my street!
I don't get to read for pleasure as much as I would like to now with reading academic literature a lot, but I like Marian Keyes, Patricia Cornwell and the like and I enjoy non-fiction as well. But again, I'm not a Mills and Boons kinda gal, but I'll give most books ago. It's like films, they're stories and I'm interested in people, so many books will appeal!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've ridden an elephant bare-back in a river in Nepal and swam with wild dolphins in the ocean in Kenya :-)
Teach, Learn, Share
I have taught sociology and social policy at The University of Nottingham (my home city) - if that's any good to anyone! And they are my subject areas in terms of my PhD.
I'm currently working as an English teacher and would be happy to help anyone with their English grammar!
