Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I´ve surfed in Paris and Berlin with truly wonderful people. And I have met people who've been couchsurfing at friends' places. There was the girl from Brazil, I forget her name, but we talked of Oscar Niemayer & so on. And there was that Swedish guy, who could jump further than anyone I've seen. Finally there was the wonderful german girl staying with my sister who showed us coin tricks.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm game for everything from a symphony orchestra in a pompous opera hall to a dubstep show in a derelict warehouse. I believe there's something worthwhile in every kind of music, as long as the timing is right & you're with good people. Let's go dancing!

I'm especially fond of wild strawberries, 12 angry men, Death of a Cyclist, and the lost weekend. But any film by woody allen, billy wilder, ingmar bergman or werner herzog will do just fine.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A few years ago a friend & I drove out to the nether regions of Canada, i.e. New Brunswick, for god knows what reason, in his old jalopy of a pickup truck. His mother had a tiny house on a field; nothing for miles around. I remember going outside the first night -- it was early July, & the air was sticky -- and being struck by the sight of millions of fireflies, dancing little blue arcs in the darkness. Apparently this was their mating event, which happens only once a year. It was incredible.
