About Me

ABOUT ME

I am a busy person! I can usually be found juggling at least 3 things at any given time, which sometimes leads to trouble. Nonetheless, I like to think I've managed to do some pretty awesome stuff so far in my life and am definitely looking forward to doing a lot more! I would love to meet anyone with an interesting perspective on their respective hometowns, particularly in regards to politics, society, queer community and the environment. I love music, dancing, occasionally like to get drunk and always love to eat delicious food (not always easy since I'm a vegan) so if I'm visiting your town, it would be cool to get the low-down on any good places for any of these activities!

PHILOSOPHY

The world is huge and it would be a total shame not to see as much of it as I possibly can while I'm here. I try to live with as much compassion and perspective as possible, and strongly believe that prejudices are the result of ignorance- often due to a lack of contact/ opportunity. The old adage "we belong to the earth, the earth doesn't belong to us" holds true for me, and I strive to see the root causes of social inequities whenever possible, rather than believe racist or classist rhetoric about any given group of people. "The personal is political."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've been informally couchsurfing and putting folks up for years through "friends of friends" networks, etc. when they come to visit San Francisco.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have stayed in numerous (mostly queer) squats and collective households in europe, as well as put up tons of people over the years despite my very small, humble apartment's offerings. I was fortunate enough to meet and be hosted by more than a few incredible people throughout my travels in Latin America. I strongly believe that to truly get to know a place you have to get below the surface presented to "tourists", and I try to do that wherever I go.

Interests

I am studying Spanish, love vegan baking & cooking, am a big supporter of environmental and animal rights activism & projects, & agitate against injustice in all its (far too numerous) forms. I love to ride bicycles, make my own everything, listen to/ make music (though I don't actually "play" any instruments yet), dance, and explore and learn about as much as I possibly can.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen 50,000 people converge in one place at one time to march against Globalization and to protect the rights of people, animals and the planet that are normally denied a voice (Seattle WTO in '99). I have hugged and kissed an endangered giant leatherback turtle in Costa Rica, climbed an 80-foot strangler fig in Australia, sat in Jail for 2 days in Scotland, cracked my head open in Guatemala, and biked around my beautiful city of San Francisco with friends from around the globe to show it off.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know lots about vegan (animal-free) cooking and baking, feminism, youth advocacy, abuse survivor support, intersectional oppression, some bike fixing skills, lifting weights (a little bit!), good food (I'm a great eater and love to cook!), music (consuming more than creating, but I'm open to trying).

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good wine, great stories, lots of political conversations/ thoughts (I'm super left as you might gather), and great cooking.
