Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Live my life in a way that enhances my life and the lives of the people around me.
ABOUT ME
I'm an idea guy. I'm constantly coming up with new ideas for products, systems, etc. I'm honest, intelligent, sincere, with an offbeat sense of humor. I like to be active and outdoors, especially bike riding or hiking. I'm very interested in natural history, and have visited rainforests in several different parts of the world.
PHILOSOPHY
I think that each of us must come up with our own source of meaning. I believe that freedom is very important, but government must police the actions of corporations and others that might engage in activities that harm people. I am a pacifist and deeply regret (and oppose) the military adventurism of recent US administrations.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I haven't yet figured out how I fit in to the Couchsurfing project. I may be able to contribute design ideas once I get more familiar with it.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I look forward to meeting other CouchSurfers and talking with them about their experiences!
Interests
I'm interested in a lot of things. I love nature, and especially tropical rainforests. I love ideas and long conversations about them. I like to bicycle and hike, and play and listen to music. My main vice is pastry, and I know many of the best bakeries in San Francisco. I don't smoke or do drugs, and I rarely have more than a single beer if I drink at all.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like music like Bjork, Tori Amos, Pink Floyd, Bel Canto, Suzanne Vega, and Brian Eno, just to give a smattering.
Lately I've been reading books by Steven Johnson including "Emergence: The Connected Lives Of Ants, Brains And Cities" (which was great) and "Everything Bad Is Good For You" which is quite thought-provoking.
My favorite movies include "The Man Who Fell To Earth," "The Matrix," and "Ghost In The Shell."
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In the rainforest of the Ecuadorian and Peruvian Amazon I've seen beetles that flash bright pink flashes as they fly, and have flickering, glowing blue spots on their backs. They only come out for a few minutes just as the sun is setting.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know a lot about nature in the San Francisco Bay Area. I also know about many groups that lead hikes focusing on birds and plants of the area, and offer frequent lectures on these topics.
Countries I’ve Visited
Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Costa Rica, Ecuador, France, French Polynesia, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Sweden, United Kingdom, Venezuela
Countries I’ve Lived In
