ABOUT ME
Originally from Colorado, I've been living in Lugano for the past six years, first as a PhD student and then as a post-doc at the local Uni. My life is now moving on, and I'm about to embark on one last European journey before moving back to the U.S.
I'm a very open guy, who loves to talk about almost anything. Want to do something that actively helps the world; still trying to figure out what that is.

PHILOSOPHY
Bring two beers (one for you) and we can discuss until dawn.

Music, Movies, and Books
While I enjoy a good movie, what I am truly addicted to are documentaries.
Musically, almost anything goes. I grew up listening to mostly classical, jazz, and traditional European folk music, styles which I still listen too and influence my tastes today. But I've also picked up DJing as a hobby over the years, and used to run podcast called Sonxs (http://www.sonxs.net) which took up a lot of my music time.
I go through periods of reading voraciously, and others where I wont pick up a book for months. Favorites in fiction include the "classics" (Catch-22, 1984, Foundation Trilogy, LotR), but I've developed a taste for non-fiction as well, and enjoy the occasional philosopher philosophizing (Russel, Arendt, Dennett, and many others who's names I always forget). Recent reads include Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Alan Sokal.
Teach, Learn, Share
I hold a PhD in Computer Science, which might sound vaguely scarey. I promise, I'm one of the more normal computer people out there. While I probably can't fix your Windows installation (I haven't used it in years), I love to teach core curriculum, and have lead classes and recitations for going on 11 years. If you want to learn the basics of programming, I'd be more than willing to help. I can also teach introductory logic, proof technique (I'm rusty).
I also have some minimal training and experience in journalism, both in print and radio. A lover of independent media, I'd love to pass on the passion and howto.
Also, rock climbing anyone? I'm not great, but I can teach the basics of sport climbing.
