CURRENT MISSION

We're travelling down from Canada to New Orleans, to catch up with some old musician friends. This is a really old photo that doesn't have Hero in it, we'll find another one soon!

ABOUT US

We live in London -Hero on a boat, Jacob in a squat. Hero works full time as a community organiser, resisting gentrification and supporting grassroots action of tenants, shopkeepers and young people. Jacob does the same, but in a less organised, non-paid way. We love our lives in London, carousing around with everyone we know. We're excited to check out what's going on in Detroit and Nashville and take a bit of a break.

Interessi

We're both pretty into politics and a good conversation over a beer. Not into patriarchy or fascism, no debate. We like learning how to do things ourselves because Jacob is usually broke.

Jacob teaches the violin, folk and other styles. He used to play in bands and stuff. He listens to a lot of music, of all different styles. He has done a counselling course, and like most people is interested in emotional well-being.

Hero likes football (soccer) and on most Saturdays can be found with a Clapton Ultra scarf supporting the local anti-fascist football team. She also likes Roller Derby, although fractured her elbow playing it so is currently a spectator! Living on a boat also means a lot of time is spent happily fiddling around with engines.

We live very sociable lives with lots of people in squats and on the river. We love to cook up a big meal. And we're always up for going to see some music/ going out and then recovering with some fried foods the morning after!

Musica, film e libri

We don't always agree on films, but generally female leads and tales of resistance. Jacob likes to deconstruct films afterwards, whereas Hero thinks this spoils it. Charlie Brooker has made some great stuff about the UK.

We like to read some history and social theory, as well as the odd novel when we have time.

Jacob will be travelling with his violin and loves to make music with people. He also loves to cook, and learning and sharing new recipes.

Hero is a skilled seamstress and has lots of experience teaching and running workshops. We're both pretty good listeners, and we're travelling to find out about how people live in the States.
