About Me

*** UPDATE October 2022***

I am recently back on Couchsurfing.com after a long hiatus.
I have not had a chance to update my profile yet.
I will do that shortly.

************

* LGBTQIA friendly. Pronouns him/his.

I am patient and kind. I like to laugh and talk and learn. I'm passionate about several topics. And sometimes verbose.
I enjoy the outdoors, group meals, and dancing; to name a few. But sometimes I just want to sit quietly and read.
Oh, and no one can karate chop better than me.

I'm vegetarian (no animal flesh - I love my cheese, will eat eggs, etc.). Slaughter a lamb in here if you'd like but please clean up after yourself.

*** House rules ***
I'm a pretty laid-back person. But there are a few things I am particular about. These are them:

* Please leave your shoes at the door - specifically, any footwear that is worn outside. This is a bare feet, socks, and slippers home.

* If your profile is not complete or if you have zero references I might decline you. I believe in the spirit of couchsurfing; which is not just a free place to sleep. The best way to references is to attend local couchsurfing events. Once you meet fellow surfer there they'll be glad to write a positive review for you on your profile.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

What better way to share the things you love and experience things from other locations than to couchsurf? I host for the same reasons.

When I am home I join and organize couchsurfing events around town. I have a few tentative trips on the horizon, though. So I hope to incorporate couchsurfing in them. I have also attended the Charleston, SC Couch Crash both times in the past two years.

My travel goals include visiting more cities, states, and countries than I am able to list here. But I can say I would like to travel alone some times, with another other times, and occasionally in a group. I hope to have the opportunity to do all of it.

Interests

The best thing to do is ask me. But in the mean time:
I really like to learn new things. Specifically the history of an area, of people, and of a region. For example new dishes to eat - who doesn't love food? Reading is a great activity that can bring you to places without ever having to leave your chair. But it can also help you understand better the world around you. Listening to live music is wonderful but making music is better.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy the history of nations, peoples, politics, and cultures.

I listen to a wide range of music from Classic Rock to Soft Jazz to Blue Grass. What I am listening to depends on what I am doing at the moment.

I enjoy non-fiction. Biographies, histories, and even some text books. I am starting to explore the genre of science fiction as well as some classical fiction. Here's what I am reading lately:

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Survived every single bad day so far.

Teach, Learn, Share

I sure would like to learn how to properly use semicolons and commas.
I can't remember jokes too well but I can show you how to properly secure a kayak to the roof of your car.
If you're cycling through I can show you how to tune up your bike, change a flat, etc.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Foods, experiences, music, books, points of view.

Also, the night life of Durham and the greater Triangle area; including live music, bars, shows, dirt paths, swimming locations, weird people, dead ends, creeks, lakes, fields, forests, etc.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Switzerland, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Italy, United States
