About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get my degree, and teach some kids science!

ABOUT ME

I love travelling, most importantly. I love being able to meet people and experience things I never would have done if I was just sitting at home. I love learning languages, opening my mind to other cultures and beliefs and integrating parts of them to create my frankenstein of a worldview!!! Therefore, I am a little bit of everywhere I´ve been. I am a lot of Rio de Janeiro: my host family and my friends have influenced my life to such a degree that who I was 5 years ago wouldn´t believe that I am me!

PHILOSOPHY

"Travel Well." That is, it's better to travel well than to arrive. Have a place you want to get to, but don't be so caught up in getting there that you don't see what is going on around you. Experience life, live for today, but make sure you don't lose track of where you want to go. Life has many paths to get to the same place, enjoy them!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

A few years ago I surfed in South America a little bit and had a great experience doing so. Now that I'm out of my parents house and able to host, I definitely want to give travelers the experience I received from my hosts. I'm definitely down for drinks or a round of disc golf whenever I´m available. Whenever I get more than a couple of folding chairs and a blow up mattress to furnish my apartment, I am wide open to host and share a beer! If somebody doesn't mind sleeping on the floor in an empty room, by all means, come on over!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I´ve only stayed in Sao Paulo for about a week with two different Couchsurfers, Ze Roberto and Alberto. However, it was such a great experience, I´ll never forget it and how great the Couchsurfing program is. I tell everybody I meet along the way about it!!! I also got linked into the Rio group during a month long stay with my old host family. I mainly went for hikes to Corcovado and Pedra da Gavea, but also met a few times at the Mercadinho for some beers.

Interests

-Traveling and getting to know people from different cultures definitely tops the list. Otherwise reading, playing music, brewing beer on the patio and nature!!! I would die perfectly happy if I were in the middle of a forest with nobody around...but I never say no to a hike with a buddy or a new acquaintance.

Music, Movies, and Books

Not ashamed to say it, Harry Potter...I´ve read them since I was in 4th grade. I´m in my twenties now, and I still love reading them
Also:
-Lord of the Rings, Crime and Punishment (Dostoevsky), Candide, The Aneid, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, War and Peace, and The Death of Ivan Ilych and Other Stories, The Canterbury Tales, and As I Lay Dying.

Too many movies to narrow down a list, but here´s a start at least, in no particular order:
-Cidade de Deus, The Big Lebowski, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Original 3 Star Wars, The Matrix, Le Fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain, American History X, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Requiem for a Dream, Trainspotting, Garden State,

Nick Drake, Johnny Cash, The Grateful Dead, Foo Fighters, Them Crooked Vultures, David Gray, Band of Horses, Damien Rice, Dispatch, Iron and Wine, The Low Anthem, The Postal Service, Manu Chao, Doobie Brothers, Journey, Oasis, Queen, Ben Folds, Radiohead, Bon Iver, Sara Tavares
-oh, how the list goes on!!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I suppose my exchange year up to date has been on the whole the craziest, hardest, best, and most of all most life changing experience in the short time I´ve been on this earth...One year in Rio de Janeiro, full of ups and downs, 2nd degree sunburns, near death experiences, only robbed once (miraculously), but absolutely the best year of my life because of the incredible beauty of the city and the gracious spirit of the people of Rio de Janeiro.

Teach, Learn, Share

Come play some music!

I love disc golfing and especially introducing people to disc golf.

I can brew beer, and love to show people how they can get started. If you just like to drink beer and care not how it was made, then come on over anyhow. I've got plenty on tap in my kitchen and usually a few bottles of wine, in case beer's not your thing.

I love to learn from other people, gain experience from their life experience in their country or their perspective on life, it really helps me try to be a more complete person, I guess I could say.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, France, Haiti, Ireland, Mexico, Panama, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
