ABOUT ME

My wife and I met in 2002 and discovered we both had dreams of living simpler lives in a latin country, envelopped by warm breezes. She had thought Mexico, I sold her on Costa Rica. We have moved to CR and are pursuing our dreams. We have settled in Atenas, a beautiful, small mountian town in the heart of CR. I (Mario) have lived overseas for much of my life. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro until age 11, I spent my teen years in R.I and moved to Texas after school. After the fall of the wall in 89, I became fascinated by the changes in Europe, and made a major mid life change by joining the Peace Corps and volunteering in Czech Republic as part of a business development group. After my 2 year stint, I rejoined my former firm and spent the next several years living & working in Portugal, Spain, and France. Christina spent her early years in Washignton State, lived for a brief time in Rio as well, and settled down in Bakersfield California for most of her life. Christina is a lovely artist who dabbles in a wide varity of artistic areas -painting, stained glass, jewelry making, knitting, mosaics, quilting and other yet to be discovered talents.

Our philosphy is deeply rooted in being ethical and responsible in our approach to engaging with others and in working through life's cahllenges.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have just joined the CS2 project so are still developing an understanding of how to best participate. Ideally, we would like to visit with and learn from the many interesting members of this community as we travel throught this world. We are now living in a simple but spacious house just a five minute walk from the center of the Atenas town square.

Interests

My interests include jazz music, reading, fitness activites (enjoy running & clycling), and travelling. Christina particularly enjoys doing crafts & art, as well as reading, and traveling.

Music, Movies, and Books

Our favorite album is Getz/Gilberto - beautiful bossa nova with Getz' lyrical saxophone is just perfect. I am a big jazz fan with favorites being Dave Brubeck, Art Blakey, Cannonball Adderly, Horace Silver, Oscar Peterson - too many to name I suppose. We both love reading fun fiction, and tend to lean towards mystery. My personal favorit is John D MacDonald - Travis McGee was certainly my boyhood hero.
