About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Holistic Nutrition. Grassroots Leadership. Cultivate Self-Love.
ABOUT ME
I grew up on a tiny island called Salt Cay in the Turks & Caicos Islands, attended a Quaker high school in the D.C. area for three years, and moved to Sarasota, Florida to attend New College of Florida in 2000. Since then, Sarasota has been a homebase I've left over a dozen times for travel & adventure as well as work/education/living experiences elsewhere. I graduated from New College in 2005 with a B.A. in cultural anthropology. During college, I studied abroad in Ghana (West Africa) and Jamaica. I was an activist that focused on dismantling racism and harm-reduction education. After college, I moved back home to the Islands, where I managed a small bar and cafe on the beach. Then I got a job with the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (www.maps.org) back in Sarasota. I moved out to California with MAPS in 2006 but then left MAPS to apprentice with a shaman in the Peruvian Amazon (www.windspiritcenter.com). After that, I spent a few months living nomadically in northern California and Hawai'i before moving back to Florida to be close to family. Now, I am in the professional training program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (www.integrativenutrition.com) in New York and I work as Project Assistant for the Grassroots Leadership Initiative (www.GLIsuncoast.org) and as a Market Worker at Jessica's Organic Farm (www.jessicasorganicfarm.com). I live with good people in Gillespie Park and I love cooking, loud reggae/hiphop/soul/world music, writing, herbal medicine, biking, the beach, tea, prayer and meditation, and living in Florida. Upcoming dreams/goals = work with two-three clients this summer in my holistic health counseling practice Soul Full Nutrition (www.soulfullnutrition.com); attend the Southeast Women's Herbal Conference in October; and save $ to attend a Living Foods Educator Certification at the Ann Wigmore Institute in Puerto Rico in early 2009. I am an aspiring medicinewoman: herbalist, holistic nutritionist, and doula.
