About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Move forward in life with a few good stories and few good scars, make a few people laugh along the way.

ABOUT ME

My name is Wayne. People call me Wayne, Wayno, Liquid Wayne-O.. I'm kind of clumsy.....and unorganized most of the time. I try to be open-minded and I am never afraid to give someone a chance. I grew up in a small town in the boonies of North Carolina and I like seeing as much of the world as possible. I teach high school social studies (American History & AP Psychology) and coach wrestling & soccer. I sponsor the school's Gay-Straight Alliance (LGBT Awareness club) & a weekly freestyle cipher with my students & athletes during the schoolyear. I try to attend or volunteer at as many Music Festivals as my schedule allows on the weekends & in summertime.

My goals in life: attend graduate school (and not quit a week before starting this time), teach for many years, work part-time in radio broadcasting, live in a Log cabin, meet Stevie Wonder, win the lottery, buy a jukebox and use rest of said lottery winnings for good, and take care of my parents and my Mom & my favorite teachers when they get older.

I would like for Stevie Wonder songs to play at my wedding someday. Daniel Johnston's tunes can be played at my funeral.

PHILOSOPHY

"You should wear with pride the scars on your skin, they're a map of the adventures and the places you've been". - Poi Dog Pondering

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to Couch Surf wherever I travel, and host whenever circumstances allow. I try to bring a positive energy to those that I meet and am more than capable of laughing of myself. I would like to host whenever my calendar allows - I spend a lot of the summer on road at various festivals, conferences, camps, and uncool happenings.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have only stayed on a few couches thus far, have met many CS folks along my journey. Lived in a 21-ft 1986 Coachmen RV for a year and a half. Sharing a condo now and open to hosting again.

Music, Movies, and Books

My all-time top five favorite singles:
1) The Cardigans - Lovefool
2) Semisonic - Chemistry
3) Beach Boys - Don't Worry Baby
4) Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World
5) Dusty Springfield - I Only Want To Be With You

The Smiths, Wu-Tang Clan, Weezer, Pixies, Ben Folds Five, Camper Van Beethoven, Young The Giant, St. Lucia, Dr. Dog, REM, The Police, Hot Chip, Ween, Primus, Zombies, Jim Croce, Buddy Holly, 10000 Maniacs, Walkmen, Morrissey, many more. Classic Soul, New-Wave, College Rock, Golden Age Hip-Hop, Oldies, Power Pop, most genres from the roots of Rock and Roll to the present. If it has well-written lyrics, quality instrumentation, or a danceable beat, I am probably into it. If it is an embarrassing, guilty pleasure pop song that no grown man should like, I am probably into it.

1) City of God
2) Silence of the Lambs
3) Boogie Nights
4) Legend of the Drunken Master
5) Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Top 5 Books:
1) Darcy Frey "The Last Shot"
2) Nick Hornby "High Fidelity" (No surprise there)
3) Rob Sheffield "Love is a Mixtape"
4) Hemingway "The Sun Also Rises"
5) Herman Hesse "Siddhartha"

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Survived Menigicocal Meningitis when I was 14....it was pretty scary though, had a very close brush with death.

Teach, Learn, Share

My biggest skills are making others laugh and most things involving being in front of others - mainly public speaking, beatboxing/freestyling and music theatre. Put me on a stage with a mic in my hand or an audience and I feel right at home.

Countries I’ve Visited
