About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To spread the Love around.

ABOUT ME

We are a family of seven but only the two parents (Bob and Helen)are still living at home . Three out of our five adult children are still living quite close by as well as out two beautiful grandchildren who often come over to visit. We also have a son living in Vietnam and a daughter studying in Christchurch for a few months before going to Fiji for six months on a mission internship. We live in the friendly village of Ngongotaha, not far from Rotorua and have one pet, a light grey rabbit called Moonlight who helps mow our lawn and occasionally plunders our garden. Bob and Helen enjoy travelling and meeting and mixing with people from cultures different to our own. We are both followers of Jesus Christ and are involved in small church near our home.

PHILOSOPHY

Be kinder than necessary - everyone has their struggles.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have Couchsurfers to stay whenever we aren't too busy and we encourage them to join in with meals and other activities where possible. We enjoy doing this to broaden our minds and and make some life-long friends. Couchsurfers provide fun and interest to our everyday lives. Bob, Helen and KJ did some couchsurfing a few years ago when they visited Europe as well as spent time with some of the lovely people who have surfed our couch in the past.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have hosted many wonderful people so far and have kept in contact with some of them. Katie-Jayne arranged her year in Germany through CS!

Interests

As a family we have always enjoyed going camping together, although this is changing as our children have grown older and moved away from home. We have a small rural block of land which we often visit. We are Christians and go to church quite regularly, we are also very open-minded and thrive on discussion.

Music, Movies, and Books

Bob likes action films and playing World of Tanks, Helen enjoys foreign films and drama, NZ and other fiction, and autobiographies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We've stayed on Whale Island (a native bird sanctuary) several times, travelled around some of the South Island. Last year we loved visiting Vietnam and Cambodia. My most amazing experience there was eating rice grown right outside the door of a local home at a village near Sapa. The local rice wine was very good too! Every day is an amazing day if your eyes are open!

Teach, Learn, Share

Helen loves sharing food ideas, she's happy to teach people about NZ cooking and always loves to learn how to cook (and eat) food from other cultures.

Countries I’ve Visited
