ABOUT ME
Total, total geek, into fashion, art, architechture, photography and business (eek, that last one is embarrassing).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've friends who have been in it for ages, and had the most amazing experiences. I've meet some of the people surfing with them, and it was all so positive. So it's time to join in.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I guess the biggest one was when I realised that a lot of people I knew from 'real life' were involved - which says a lot either about the people I know or the extent of the community.
And not to sound pompous, but I think it is amazing the way the internet can open up these sorts of things. Kind of similar to the second hand markets developing on sites like Ebay. I have a friend with a theory that the human brain is structured around living in villages and knowing only 200 people, but I like to believe in choice!
Interests
Art, architecture, film, anthropology, linguistics, when in pretty places bush walking (which is what we do instead of hiking in Australia, where we have bush instead of forests - different landscape, different vocabulary) and other outdoorsy activities. I realise there are thousands of other people with similar stuff on their profile, but the format kind of lends itself to lists. So for the 'art' interest I am going to add photography and Australian Aboriginal Art. I've seen some interesting exhibitions in Berlin recently on photography/ graphic design from the former Soviet Union - if anyone is in Berlin I would recommend the Klaus Staeck show at the Berlinische Gallery.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: open to most genres, just not action or romance unless they're really well done. Some of my favourite movies are In the Mood for Love (not a romance, despite the name), Russian Ark (even though I still haven't been to St Petersburg) and Roman Holiday (yes a romance, but what I would regard as well done anyway)
Books: I've read a lot of german children's books this past year, Momo is by far my favourite. Slowly moving on to adults books, liked Herr Lehman, but more to come. I read however mostly online, newspapers etc and love newyorker.com
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Fairy Penguins! On a beach outside Hobart, when there was a full moon and phosphorescence in the water.
