About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To find a French word for 'hillock'
ABOUT ME
*Update* I currently teach English as a second language to the people that make the Canadian equivalent of corndogs. When I'm not doing this I'm learning covers to impress people with on the ukulele, or eating croissants and getting fat. After learning some French I am now torn about pronouncing the 's' on the end of 'croissants' in English.
I am pretty damn good at descriptive passages, given my background in English and communications. Therefore I feel it is a little unfair to allow myself full linguistic rein to extol my own virtues. Therefore, the restrained version.
I am: Australian, interested in interesting conversation, a man, fully aware of the potential of both sarcasm and hyperbole as legitimate forms of humour, open-minded, a surfer, somewhat charming at times, 5'10'' or around about 180cm tall, etc.
Obviously, there is a little too much to fit in even a generous description so if you wanna know more we should catch up my (hypothetical) couch or yours!
PHILOSOPHY
Minimise harm, maximise happiness. Greatest good for the greatest number, although I also endorse the notion of deontology, which I believe creates the intrinsic good of sanctifying certain aspects of human life, which increases the overall goods for the greatest number THEREFORE consequentialism and rights theory need not be diametrically opposed. Can you tell I was an arts student much?
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
By sleeping on your couch and cooking you breakfast. I hope you like vegemite! And also possible future hosting and definite future meeting people for beer and pastries (separately, of course) or coffee/tea. I'm also open to other kinds of beverages.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
*Update* A lot of Europe and Sydney, Australia too. If you're thinking about couch surfing, based on my experience - DO IT.
5 beautiful days in New York with a completely amazing host, 10 days in Paris with an equally incredibly kind, generous guy. Generally speaking, to use the couchsurf lingo, extremely positive.
Interests
Playing guitar, meeting new people, eating pastries, making gross generalisations for humorous purposes, doing bad accent impersonations, making strange faces in serious photos. Getting lost in foreign cities. Getting asked for directions in foreign languages in foreign cities in which I am lost. Thickening up around the middle.
