About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new li... oh sorry, thought I was someone else for a second. Okay, how's this instead ~ live life, give it a push, affectionately, but firmly. Have a bunch of fun and smile, boy, smile!

ABOUT ME

I'm a people-person-type-of-person.
I pay bills by working casually as a social worker in Melbourne, mostly after hours + nights. My main is thing Poetry, writing and performing, which gives me an excuse to travel to new towns, cities and and countries and have something creative to do while there. I talk a lot, under the right circumstances, and the wrong ones too.
Modesty is not really part of the package, humility sometimes.

PHILOSOPHY

"Life's short, get some kicks"

I mean, I used to have a bunch of hallmark sounding crap written here because I wanted to sound hip. Now... I spend far too much time on stage trying to sound profound, but the truth is I'm living out a dream in the here and now, and it feels good.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm here looking to interact with other interesting individuals, travellers from around the world. My housemates and I have hosted the occasional surfer, but my main contribution currently is keeping the Melbourne CS group informed about spoken word/poetry gigs going on around town, and showing the odd traveller around.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchsurfed in New York, Barcelona, Granada, Bristol, London, Istanbul, New Delhi and Hong Kong. And met up with CS members in every single country I've visited, and I've hosted several couchsurfers since returning to Melbourne.

Before I joining CS.org officially in 2008, I'd been on dozens of road-trips in Australia, where I've stayed on friends-fo-friends couches for a few days at a time, then returned the favor for friends and strngers visiting Melbourne too.

Interests

Poetry(and more recently music) takes up about 85% of my life, other than that: Urban exploration (tunnels, underground, rooftops, abandoned buildings) Cycling (love your bike! I participate in Critical Mass rides and play Bike Polo semi-regularly) Photography, History/Philosophy/Myth and Culture ...anything geeky really!

Music, Movies, and Books

-I love film, (yeah but who doesn’t?) Gotta huge DVD collection at home, I'm passıonate about fılm and ıt cultural ımpacts ın the last century.
-Music; listen to lots of stuff (but everyone says that too), Hip Hop? Yes. Minimalist? Yes (especially Phillip Glass)Folk? Yes. Indie? No. Pop. NO. House? Hell no! Metal? Yes. Funk? Hell yes! Film scores and orchestral stuff? Yep. Forgotten a genre? Probably. I thirst for music, particularly all the great stuff from the 60s and 70s. Mp3 players are great for this.
-Books; Reading constantly, albeit s-l-o-w-l-y. Fyodor Dostoevsky, Alexandre Dumas and PJ O'Rourke top my lıst.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

getting up on stages around the world, helping people in need at work, watching a sunrise over Mount Everest, doing the camino de santiago (via de la plata route) in Spain on a bicycle. Stealing a hat from Elephant polo-ists in Nepal, the rooftop bussing away feeling like Indiana Jones (see profile pic).

Teach, Learn, Share

Learning might be just about the best definition 'living' can have.
If you're here (yeah YOU reading this) then chances are you have something to show me I can learn from. Everybody does.

What can I teach you? Patience... :-)
