Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I teach school, but that's so I can listen to good music, travel, and swim.
ABOUT ME
I am a musician and a teacher. I teach instrumental music in public schools. I used to play clarinet in the Kansas City Wind Symphony, and I sang in the Kansas City Symphony Chorus. I grew up in Lawrence, KS, and I lived for many years 35 miles from where I grew up. I speak Spanish fairly well. I was married to a Japanese man for a long time, and I have two grown children. I now live near St. Louis with an outstanding man. I am a private music teacher and substitute teacher, looking for a permanent job. I would love to travel more in the U.S. and abroad.
PHILOSOPHY
I am an optimist.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have a single bed in a spare bedroom to share with a visitor. My house is clean but cluttered. and its availability depends mostly upon my teaching and performance schedule. I would be happy to host someone overnight or for coffee or a drink, or show him/her some sights in Kansas City.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have met some nice new friends through CouchSurfing, both in KC and in Santa Fe. I have not stayed with another CouchSurfer yet but am looking forward to it. Several friends have had great experiences surfing.

Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy classical music of all periods: symphonic music, chamber music, opera. Also enjoy jazz, blues, Latin, even some country.
I like to read mysteries. I also enjoy authors such as Nora Roberts.
I like romantic comedies, "chick flicks." I don't like either action films or thrillers. A movie that I saw recently that I liked was "The Illusionist."
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
1. I once played the Brahms' clarinet trio with two professional musicians, and it turned out one of those inspired performances that transcends just notes. 2. My daughter's wedding. 3. "Stuck" three days at a snowed-in nature hostel in the Swiss Alps with my two grown kids.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am fairly well qualified to teach about any aspect of classical music. I can share basic information about playing almost any musical instrument, as well as music history, theory, and appreciation. I can also teach Spanish.
