About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I am the constant student. My thirst for knowing --experiencing, is unceasing. My head dwells in the clouds, my ear belongs to the roadside prophet, and my heart bounds in wild open places.

ABOUT ME

I try to keep it interesting.
Once upon at time, I made sailboat into my home (It was a great way to skirt the sizable rent of San Diego). I bought it after living/traveling half a year out of the saddle bag of my 30+ year Japanese motorcycle (prior to this trip I lived in Denver) ... I reluctantly sold my Catalina 27' to pursue an opportunity in Ireland. An opportunity I couldn't pass up. I had applied to be part of a timber-framed, natural built home, project in Tipperary Ireland . It was a long shot with only 10 spots and over 200 applicants (globally). When I received the acceptance call, I bought the plane ticket, put the boat on craigslist, and surfed a close friend's couch till my plane took flight. My ultimate dream is to use these skills I've amassed to build my own hand-built, sustainable home. I have many travelling days ahead of me, but my prevailing desire is to have that home base to come back to. You can see the Tipperary project here at http://mudbandits.blogspot.com/

PHILOSOPHY

"Verily the lust for comfort murders the passion of the soul, and then walks in grinning to the funeral.
But you, children of space, you restless in rest, you shall not be trapped nor tamed.
Your house shall be not an anchor but a mast."
~Kahlil Gibran

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: My book tastes are pretty nerdy. I read a lot of non-fiction, e.g... science writers (Sapolsky, Eagleman, Gladwell), philosophy (Russel, Nietzsche, P.F and Galen Strawson, Camus) I've also had a lifelong fascination with mythology --I grew up in the church... so I had a head start ;) .
As far as fiction, I enjoy the usual's - Tom Robbins, Palahniuk, Steinbeck, Murakami, Douglas Adams, Jonathan Safron Foer, Kundera.

My favorite travel book: Don't Tell Mum I Work on the Rigs, She Thinks I'm a Piano Player in a Whorehouse, by Paul Carter.

Movies: ahhh the usual's- Kaufman, Scorcese, Jarmusch, Malick, Jeunet, Ridley Scott, Kubrick, Tarantino, Rodriguez, Coen Brothers! Raimi, Christopher Guest, Wes Anderson.
As far as titles go - The American Astronaut, High Fidelity, Leaving Las Vegas, The Fall, 180 South, Mesrine, Only Lovers left Alive, Mad Max, Adaptation, Ghost Dog, Gladiator, Wristcutters, Religoulous.

Music: I appreciate all genres. What's most important to me is that the music be authentic, artful, and heartfelt... but then sometimes I just want to listen to some lowbrow pop tune because I'm feeling its energy... it really depends on my mood.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Fixed a motorcycle with a packet of ramen noodles

Teach, Learn, Share

I am loaded with random knoweldge.

Learn- I want to learn new languages, and hear your travel adventures.

Sharing- I'm pretty handy. I enjoy doing fix-it up odd jobs for people, (example- tuning a bicycle, righting a wonky ceiling fan, fixing a bug on your computer) I just like being helpful. :)
