About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Finding out how to make the most of a beautiful life...

ABOUT ME

Reading is an incurable passion of mine. I study English and Nordic language and literature at university and I think my main reason for doing so is to better understand what life is and can become - for myself as well as for others...

PHILOSOPHY

"Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more, it's a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing" - why, then, spend it worrying about petty little fears? I want to make the most of my short and precious life, being the most I can for myself as well as for the people around me and the world that I live in!

Interests

I love reading, conversing, being out in the open air - perhaps especially on the water in the open air, I love being introduced to new music, new thoughts, new people, I love travelling, I love history, philosophy, geography, I love my family, my friends, people around me who treat each other with respect, I love language and would like to learn tons of them, I like getting a little tipsy, I love unexpected adventures, I love rollerskating, biking and swimming, I love going to the movies or to a good concert, I love my studies, my job (I work at a theatre/concert hall), my volunteer work (tutoring kids), and I love so many other things...

Music, Movies, and Books

Some favourite books (and other literatures) are "Niels Lyhne" by J. P. Jacobsen (my favourite Danish piece of literature ever; Rainer Maria Rilke learned Danish only to read his works), "Wide Sargasso Sea" by Jean Rhys, "England, England" by Julian Barnes, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer, "Lykke-Per" by Henrik Pontoppidan (another Danish author), "The Myth of Sisyfos" by Albert Camus, "Slaughterhouse 5" by Kurt Vonnegut, "White Noise" by Don DeLillo, "Lord Jim" by Joseph Conrad, "White Teeth" by Zadie Smith, "Transmission" by Hari Kunzru, "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennesse Williams, "Howl" by Allen Ginsberg, "As I Lay Dying" by William Faulkner, "Brand" by Henrik Ibsen, "Enten-Eller" by Søren Kierkegaard, "Presten" by Hanne Ørstavik (Norwegian author), "Mrs. Dalloway" by Virginia Woolf, "Endgame" by Samuel Becket, "Syndfloden over Norderney" by Karen Blixen (aka Isak Dinesen), "Renæssance-skilderi" by Albert Dam and anything by Shakespeare

So much wonderful music to choose from, but one that needs mentioning would be Nick Cave; I love his music as well as his odd, dark, sinister and beautiful lyrics!!!
I used to play the piano and would always select classical pieces in minor... hmm...
And then I very much enjoy beeing introduced to musical forms that I am otherwise unfamiliar with.
Then there's Kliché, Portishead, Joy Division, The Doors, Billy Holiday, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Scott Walker, The Shins, Deathcab for Cutie, Sigur Ros, Jomi Massage, Air, Radiohead, Lisa Ekdahl, Tina Dico, Brad Mehldau, Gotan Project, Lumsk, Mimas, The Cure, Devandra Banhart... and more...

Some favourite Movies: Magnolia, There Will Be Blood, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Adaptation, El Laberinto del Fauno, American History X, Manhatten, Der Himmel über Berlin, Reconstruction (Danish), Festen (Danish), Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, Control and many more

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I worked for a year as a volunteer at a boarding school for children and young people with learning disabilities. It was wonderful to experience people who were so present, honest and unconditionally loving and who didn't constantly have to reassure the world of how normal and perfect they were!
Hopefully I'll never forget how much they taught me about myself, about life, about happiness and above all about goodness...

And then I spend this past summer (nearly three months) couchsurfing around America! It's one of the most amazing things I've done. I cannot distill those three months down to anything specific - it was just the movement across those vast spaces, silences, noices, deserts, forests, plains... and meeting so many wonderful people and getting myself and my fellow traveler into troubles and having the time of my life!!!

Teach, Learn, Share

I'd like to learn anything that adds to the riches of life and allows me to develop a still more nuanced perspective on and approach to life!!! The possibilities are almost infinite...

I can teach you something about Danish phonetics and if you're real lucky I'll add a bit of info concerning the differences between Anglo-American and Danish modernism... Fireworks!!!!
No, hopefully I can teach you other stuff as well only I don't like praising myself - unless I do it in the company of people who knows that I'm actually right! You'll have to make up your own mind about me once we meet!!!

Countries I’ve Visited
