About Me

Music, Travelling, Photography. 3 words to start describing myself.

I´m very open minded, easy going, with a venturous spirit.

I started travelling in 2009, after finishing my master's degree and leaving my job as a creative director in an advertising office I co-owned. Since then, I've been to more than 70 countries, sometimes working, sometimes just for leisure, going and coming back to my home country, Brazil.

When I travel, I like to mix into people's daily routines, trying not to be just a visiting tourist and sharing as much as my language/communication skills allow me.

Besides meeting nice people and getting to see different cultures, one of my greatest pleasures while travelling is to take the best pictures I can to save beautiful memories from everyplace with me. And I've been doing this for such a long time this has become one of my current work activities: taking pictures and writing about the places I visit.

I have worked for travel guide publishers as a travel writer and as a photographer, among other jobs.

You can see some of my photography work in my personal website www.heliodias.com.br and on my Instagram @heliodiasphotos

I also like to play and make music (have good skills on guitar and percussion). Maybe that's my greatest passion, but unfortunately I can't bring my guitar with me...

Most important: I've always got a smile on my face.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm looking for new experiences, meeting nice people, getting travel advices from locals, sharing stories and good moments.

And I've had all this from CS. Thank you.

Books: love the classics.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The most amazing is to have travelled a lot abroad, getting to know so many countries with different cultures, always learning something in each place I visit and from each person I meet.

Unforgettable travel experiences:
- visiting the old Jerusalem, the most fantastic place I've been so far
- climbing the Mount Roraima in Venezuela
- photographing the people and the colors of Peru and visiting Machu Picchu
- travelling long distances by bicycle;
- visiting the Canaima National Park and the huge Angel Falls in Venezuela
- climbing up to 5.600 meters high in Bolivia
- playing percussion with the Berbers in the Sahara desert
- watching the power of the waters of the Iguazu Falls in Brazil/Argentina
- suddenly seeing a shark a couple of meters away while scuba diving in Venezuela
- visiting the isolated Keieteur Falls in Guyana
- staying a couple of weeks in the real caribbean paradise of Los Roques
- visiting Petra, in Jordan
- hiking in the Sahara desert at night only lit by moonlight, climbing the highest dune and seeing nothing else but sand and stars
- chilling out and partying at the crazy and beautiful thai beaches
- meeting known people by chance in the most different places (the world is so small)
- meeting all the good friends I made in my long stays in Buenos Aires, Praia do Forte, La Paz, Lima, Thailand and all over the world.

Other amazing stuff I've done: being a musician, playing in bands, acting in a play, working as a travel writer/photographer.

Teach, Learn, Share
