ABOUT ME

When I was overseas with the military, I promised myself that when I got home I would finally start LIVING. Since I have been back, life has been fresh and new and my perspective on everything has been re-examined. I feel like everything was out of focus before. My passion for friendship and meaningful connections with the world and those around me has granted endless possibilities over the last year. I love living, I love new things, I love music, I love my family and friends. I enjoy writing, thinking, making music, playing sports, films, art.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am officially a 'new member,' but along with my brother Alex, we have been opening our door and offering our couch to friends we've never met and old friends for almost a year now. We are going to be hitting the road with our band The Cloth Sea, very soon and hope we can find new friends to help us on the journey along the way.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have slept in many foreign beds, on several strange couches, and on more alien floors than both combined, and I have not once felt like I would have been better off in a hotel, motel or outside. The couch room of my apartment in Madison, WI USA has been site to many weary travelers and continues to be an open place of safe passage and meaningful debate.

I am not a wise man or a 'scholar' by the definitions, but I have lived a little and learned a little along the way. In the mountains of Afghanistan, on a crisp August morning with the sun just peaking over the closest hilltop I realized something. As I looked wearily into the side-mirror on my truck at the dirty reflection of my face, my thoughts were consumed by a deep yearning to be home, with my friends and family and the places I care about. This was instantly troubling, but when I looked across the street of the small Afghan town we were driving through at the faces of the kids that hung shyly from doorways I was stilled. The feeling of dread was replaced with a calmness unlike anything I have ever felt.
