About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Finding interesting things to do while I'm in China/Japan this May/June

ABOUT ME

53 - year old empty nester geek/nerd with a spare room living smack dab in the heart of downtown Montreal literally steps away from the major museums and a short walk or even shorter metro ride to all sorts of event venues, pubs, clubs, and shops. Seriously, I could not be in a more central location and I’d be super-happy to help you find fun stuff to do while you’re surfing and possibly join you or show you around if you like.

Oh, and I have a SIC (Standard-Issue Cat) tabby and she’s sassy. So you may not want to bunk down at my place if you are allergic because it’s her place, I just pay the rent. But if you are ok with cat (singular) then get in touch!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Now that I’ve fixed the place up a bit and made it presentable, I’m thinking being a host might be fun. The pandemic and lockdowns over the last few years put a real dampener on travel and things are getting to a new normal and that new normal is more expensive, so I’d like to make it easier for folks to travel around and the best way I can think of doing that is providing a room to crash in.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My last couch surf was age ago, I haven’t travelled much since the . It was in 2008 and I was in Beijing, then Shanghai, and finally Tokyo and Osaka. I’m looking forward to travelling again one day soon but in the meantime if you’re planning on visiting Montreal please check in!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Big fan of the fluffy stuff (fantasy, science fiction, comedy, action). Movies are fun escapes for me, I want to go somewhere interesting or nice. There's enough downers and drama in the world that I don't need to seek out someone else's vision of it. You can get enough of that just watching the newsfeeds...

Books: Bits of everything and anything. These days I'm addicted to cooking magazines and science magazines.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I somehow have the most awesome kid in the universe (she is 19 now (as of 2023) and the coolest human on the planet). I mean I’ve jumped out of a plane but that’s nothing compared to being a parent as far as it goes.

Teach, Learn, Share

If I knew what you know...and you knew what I know... then we can figure out what I know that you don't, and what you know that I don't.

Then the teaching and learning can begin.

First, we need to talk, write, communicate. The rest works itself out.

Countries I’ve Visited
