About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To spread the good words, like chichicastanango; to share the multitudinous measures of magic that life bestows, like yo-yos and dessert toads; to revel in the mystery and to understand history; to grasp things with an ever more present mind, unperturbed

ABOUT ME

I am changing, constantly rearranging, as some parts break down, others take their place. I am growing, flowing more smoothly. Usually my mind just wanders and ponders, but as I grow stronger I begin to sing a new tune, like the one Grandmother moon sang before time was conceptualized and divided into minutes and daze, and this tune resonates within my soul, so as I grow old I actually appreciate that one day I will fold back into the soft ripples of space and time, and somewhere I'm not yet aware of, there will strike a small chime and my mind will be set free and perhaps a more subtle energy will pass silently onto the next wave, but that's a long way away. For now, I keep planting seeds, weeding the garden, cultivating compassion so that when the fruits are ready to harvest, there will be no need to ration. I travel to quench this thirst for adventure and greater understanding, though someday I'll fully realize that everything is everywhere, and I need not take a step to be seeped in life's riches.

PHILOSOPHY

Everything in moderation, including moderation. It all comes out in the wash. A penny saved is a penny earned. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. And don't count your chickens before they've hatched! Expectationless, we'll be free to work without the burden of fear or attachment, thus most efficiently and happy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Just joined the CS2 Project, though I've heard the good word from many a friend. This is a lovely formalized version of that which I've been experiencing for years. It's sharing. Good people unite! When abundance comes my way I try not to cling, I let it keep flowing to where it needs to go, and like this it's maintained. If I try to hold it all to myself, I'd just get bored. So of course, when I have a couch again, it'll be yours.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

There have been countless wonderful people who have opened their doors to me, likewise, the times I have had a space to call my own, I invite others. It can be quite mundane, like when I come into the city to visit my cousin for the weekend, I sleep on his couch, or more fantastic, like when I was deep in the Amazon rainforest and my canoe capsized while I was trying to negotiate some rapids in a small tributary of the Rio Negro; evidently a small hunting party of Dasana indians had seen me and took me back to their village where I ended up living for five months.

Music, Movies, and Books

Oh anything well done, there's too much goodness to write down............................

How bout those beautiful Nature Documentaries, or Documentaries of all sorts. Music like African or anything soulful. Gospel. Meditative chants of all sorts. Buddhist monks hum duming, my papa strumming the guitar, music from my own backyard, like the chickadees and flickers, and thrushes, and all the beautiful songbirds! Word to the wordless warble! Roots, rock, reggae, oh, I love reggae music, and salsa, and cumbia. How bout those Indian ragas, or Qawali music that takes me into trance, or even well crafted electronically produced beats. Hmmm... too much goodness to go around. Books, well, Tom Robbins is a hero for sure. Wade Davis, William Greider, oh and the list goes forever.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Done: I flew in my dreams.
Seen: A shark.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teachings: happiness with little, basket weaving,
Learnings: oh just about anything can be fun
