About Me

CURRENT MISSION

maximize opportunity

ABOUT ME

Other people would be better here. Its hard to describe yourself but I'll try.

I'm a tad shy of being 6 feet 3 inches tall. I've had couch surfing for a long time but I never used it until 2011.

I'm a 23 year old who loves traveling, learning, and doing pretty much anything. I enjoy meeting people, hanging out, and listening to what other people have to say. I don't think you can ever be too spontaneous.

I had a hidden talent for contortionism, and had being doing random contortionist things for a few years. Now I'm getting all stiff and fat in my old age. I invented
a word -- "Ferjambled" -- that means chaotic, scrambled or messy.

I recently moved to Birmingham, Alabama. Being a northerner, it is taking some adjustment to getting used to living in the south. I'm enjoying my new job and new digs. I have great neighbors, dogs and cats included.

I am currently training for my third marathon, which is October 9. Otherwise, I enjoy all sorts of physical activity, and try to stay active, trying to be healthy.

I think if you want to accomplish something, you should just do it. It is easy to make excuses.

PHILOSOPHY

As listed, I was an engineering student, which by default means that I'm incapable of expressing my thoughts or feelings in writing (sarcasm).

I find it hard to describe myself in a small form, but the main virtue that I live by is honesty. I value honesty, flat out truth telling, more than any other virtue. I find it insulting, pretentious, and conceited when people lie. By telling the truth about your feelings, emotions, motives, or fears, you are able to live a balanced and normal life. It is easier to build solid relationships with others and yourself when they are built on a solid foundation and mutual respect and trust, which is what honesty builds.

I'm comfortable in myself, I feel no need to impress anyone. I try to live my life so that I know I do everything in good faith.

I am always pretty chill, and I like listening to you, if you are putting thought into what you say.

And my last thing, I would have to say, is "to each his own". Nothing gets me riled up more than people who think that they are 100% correct about religion, politics, personal relationships, or almost anything (except math problems). Everyone believes something different. Being passionate about something doesn't mean that it is true.

In all, I love randomness, it takes a lot to get me uneasy (I haven't backed down from any unusual situation in years), and I march to my own drum.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosted twice, surfed twice, and getting more into as time allows. My girlfriend is big into this and I've seen how cool it is.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I heard about CouchSurfing through our school newspaper, and am checked it out in Australia for the first time, but ended up not surfing. I haven't had the opportunity to host, because I just got out of university, so hopefully I can host more often.

Interests

Kayaking, homebrewing beer, running, sport logos and uniforms and their history, traveling

I like meeting new people who have taken time to know themselves and getting to know them as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Kayaking in Sydney Harbor was pretty cool, as well as playing chess with a Hurrican Katrina survivor. He beat me in four moves, showing (my lack of chess skills) that you should never count someone out. Driving to New Orleans on 15 minutes notice (15 hr drive) was also pretty memorable.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn how to surf.

I am pretty knowledgable about the history and current state of many American sports team's logos and uniforms. Its a hobby I've had for a while. I could also go on for hours telling you about famous Iowans, like John Wayne :)

I know a little bit about a lot of things. I've always been pretty handy -- need to fix anything?
