CURRENT MISSION
learning how to set fire to myself
ABOUT ME
Currently on a pilgrimage to the poet Rumi's tomb in Konya, Turkey. Am a full time writer and cabaret performer back home. Used to work as an economist, and still do that from time to time to pay the bills, though i don't wear ties anymore. Always been very active, but i've moved away from competitive sports towards yoga, dancing and bush-walking these days. Have a very strong spiritual drive in my life, though this doesn't fit neatly into any of the boxes religion gives us.
PHILOSOPHY
Activism was a focus of my life for a long time, but now I'm more interested in how we free the human consciousness from fear and move towards motives rooted in love. Back home we call it a 'love revolution' but I run with a lot of hippies. I think the biggest contribution I can make to this revolution is to tackle my own fears and insecurities and to welcome love into my life, however it comes. This is the trip I'm on right now. The 13th century Sufi poet Rumi has taught me more about this than any one, and that's the reason for the pilgrimage.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Am very new to this project, but i love what its about, and i've had people on my couch all my life.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Have spent a lot of time on people's couches around Australia, and have had a lot of people on mine, but this is my first trip overseas. I have only a passing interest in buildings, and am much more excited to see how people and cultures live. This is what excites me about the couchsurfing project.

Music, Movies, and Books
“A poet will never accept a state and a state will never accept a poet. We r even. Between the politic and the citizens of language, there is a war.” - Helene Cixous
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I lived on a remote aboriginal community in the Northern Territory of Australia for three months. It taught me a lot about an ancient an amazing culture in our own backyard, that unfortuantely is often forgotten.
Teach, Learn, Share
It feels like humans find themselves in a battle between the things that hold us back, and the person we want to be. I'm intersted in learning about how other people deal with this. In particular, I'm interested in learning about how people do this in relation to the particular cultures they exist in.
One lesson I've learnt is that we get what we expect.
