HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have had nothing but wonderful couchsurfing experiences in the US, West Africa, and the Caribbean, and it is through couch surfing that I have discovered some of my most amazing friends.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couch surfed in Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and St Lucia. I have hosted in the US and Tobago. Everyone I have met has been genuine and all-around great!

If you are ever in Mali, West Africa:

A wonderful experience is taking a public pinasse (15,000 CFA) from Mopti to Timbuktu. This is the cheapest, most enjoyable way to get up north. During the beginning of dry season look for hippos, and during the rainy season look for crocodiles! You can bargain (in French or Bambara) with a fisherman at the port in Mopti to hitch a ride. Definitely bring your own food (fruit, bread cheese, water) and don't bring anything you're afraid to get wet! You will sleep on sacks of rice and pee off the side of the boat in front of a crowd, but it is a one-of-a kind EXPERIENCE!! It is one of the most wonderful things I've done.
