About Me

CURRENT MISSION

It would be nice to make this little spot on earth a little brighter.

ABOUT ME

I'm a curious person, interested in many things. I did theater and like writing. Worked with young kids in poetry and theater workshops. Sometimes need to leave the busy life behind me and be receptive for anything that comes up. I was a librarian most of my life, but now work as a Dutch language teacher for immigrants.

PHILOSOPHY

Every encounter is a possible friendship.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosted over 300 people, was a guest at many places, organized meetings and events. CS became part of my lifestyle.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first CS experience was in China, in 2008, backpacking alone for one month. Since then I got the CS virus, stayed at many places and hosted even more.

Interests

I want to get to know the world not just by the books, although those are very important in my life. I love discussions on ways of living, ethics, politics, differences in culture, etc. But let it not only be academic. I also like to go out and do crazy things, keep the child in me awake. I find much joy in folk dancing and contact improvisation. Recently I started to dance forro. Since a few years I'm writing novels.

Music, Movies, and Books

Maybe you could give me some ideas? One that particularly struck me is 'The ubearable lightness of being' by Milan Kundera. 'Shadow of the wind' by Ruis Zafon, 'Shantaram' by Gregory David Roberts.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The way I taught my kids to think for themselves is something I'm quite proud of.

Teach, Learn, Share

My memory is a treasure of experiences. Challenge me! I'm not a walking encyclopedia, but I have a lot of stories to tell and a good ear for listening to yours.
