About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Newfoundland or bust!

ABOUT ME

I'm a very relaxed and peaceful person who is always in the mood to learn something new. I think listening is the most powerful force in the world. I advocate a meatless diet and the inclusion of art in everyday life. I come from a big family and am very close with all of my siblings. I love walking, reading, writing, drinking tea, and having intimate discussions.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My boyfriend and I have a two bedroom in Columbus, Ohio that we're willing to share.

Note: I work a demanding job teaching core curriculum to middle school students. I work at the very least 10 hours a day, but usually hit 12-14 hours. As a result, our house is likely not the most social place to surf during the school year (August-June).

Music, Movies, and Books

Some writers I'm currently in love with: James Tate, Assia Djebar, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Brigit Pegeen Kelly, Lucie Brock-Broido, Richard Siken, Denis Johnson, bell hooks, Charlie Kaufman, André Breton, Rainer Maria Rilke, Sylvia Plath, Yasunari Kawabata, Bill Knott, Toni Morrison, Thomas Hardy, James Joyce, Alice Oswald, Yukio Mishima, Victoria Redel, Chris Kraus, and James Dickey.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A few years ago I worked in a painting studio with individuals with profound disabilities. Each day I at work, I was amazed by the courage and spirit of the artists I painted with.

Now I teach middle school to students from low-income, underserved families. I absolutely love my job and am so thankful for the wisdom my students have given me.

Regarding travel experiences, I've seen Johannesburg on Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday. I was in Sydney when they surprised everyone in their bid for the World Cup. The greatest time of my life, though, was in Malawi (southeast Africa), building houses with Habitat for Humanity and volunteering with different agencies and organizations.
