About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Simply to travel and experience everything life has to offer! I've seen and done lots of crazy amazing things and want to see more :)

ABOUT ME

1/2-Texan, 1/2-Belgian, addicted to traveling :)

PHILOSOPHY

I just want to travel and see interesting things and meet interesting people! I have no personal religious beliefs but I respect those that do. I see beauty in everything, be it the craftsmanship of a simple chair, an ant colony, trees blowing in the wind, traffic patterns, the vast expanse of the cosmos, etc. I look around and see so many people that go about doing their things with glazed eyes and it's so depressing! If you can't appreciate the minuta then how can you really appreciate all that life has to offer?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I was living in student housing co-ops we used to host people all the time (often foreign travelers that needed a couch to crash on for a week or so). I just recently got back home from a couchsurfing stint in Mexico with a friend. Our hosts were amazing and meeting and making friends with other surfers and locals was a blast! I'm not always able to host unfortunately but it never hurts to ask, and I'm always down to show people all the cool things this awesome city has to offer!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My most recent stint couchsurfing was spending 5 weeks in Mexico with my friend bouncing around having an adventure. It was technically my first time using couchsurfing.org but not my first time doing this kind of thing. It's basically the way I travel normally (I spent 6 weeks in Europe last summer and didn't spend a single night in a hotel or hostel) though I typically stay with friends or family. This website is an amazing resource for traveling though and I hope to use it to meet more travelers :)

Interests

Of the things that I'm interested in... well you have your general things such as food, swimming, exploring, parties, traveling, etc. I'm a bit of a computer nerd too so I'm down to chill and play video games for an evening too.

One big part of my life is psytrance, or just any kind of outdoor music festival in general. I'm not really that interested in nightclubs and such though I do love a good dive bar, and outdoor parties are just bliss. I've been going to psytrance parties for around 6 or 7 years now and for about 3 years I threw them in the central Texas area with some friends -- we called ourselves Squid Collective. I love the music and people and atmosphere of the scene and would love to share it with others if they're interested. Though I must say that I can totally get down to some bluegrass or funk or jazz and a whole host of other types of music too. :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Psytrance, Drum & Bass, Bluegrass, and pretty much everything in general. Not a fan of club-step/hop or most of the top-40 radio stuff but in the end, I love music and I'm not too picky!Movie-wise, it's hard to list an absolute 'favorite'. Two of my favorite movies that I always have to show any new friend are City of God (about the favelas of Brazil) and Children of Men (sci-fi movie with some of the most amazing cinematography ever). I just love sci-fi in general... just watched Moon, loved it, I still watch 5th Element at least once a year. Lots of quirky weird movies like Forbidden Zone and Lost Skeletons of Cadavra and such. Basically if it's not a romantic comedy or some cop drama / detective type movie I'll probably enjoy it.TV... hmm, don't watch much of it outside of a few series. I love Top Gear, I love Breaking Bad, Rome / Deadwood / Carnivale are awesome, South Park / King of the Hill / Simpsons of course... Daily Show and Colbert Report.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There really is too much to list, so I'm going to have to come back and edit this after I've given it more thought but as a placeholder, I bungee jumped on a whim yesterday! :)

Teach, Learn, Share

Some skills I have that could be useful... well I can fix the crap out of a computer (Windows or Linux (sort of), don't really know Macs very well). I can cook pretty well and am more than happy to share recipes and teach others. I am an expert dishwasher!

I could help out with some basic level math stuff (algebra, trig, linear algebra, calculus, differential equations, etc.) though I'd probably have to refresh myself too :P

I'm a huge Roman history nerd and if you bring it up I will talk your ears off! Just tell me to shut up if I start rambling on about it.

If you're going to Austin hit me up, I've lived there my entire life and can tell you all the cool little spots to go to that you won't find in any book!

What would I like to learn? Well... all the cool little spots that you won't find in any book! Craftsmanship too -- if somebody could teach me how to do things like welding and general machinery, textiles and sowing and the like, that would be awesome! :D
