About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make the most of my existence

ABOUT ME

what to say? its been a few years since I last made the most of CS (in south America), mostly because I settled down finally and joined the corporate rat race in Melbourne. Decided I'd had enough of that after three years, travelled India (including doing a yoga teacher course) and Sri Lanka, before heading to Sweden where I got stuck and have lived ever since, coming up on 4 years soon.

previously I've travelled to see sights, but this trip I'm going for experiences and self improvement. bring on WWOOFing, learning how to make earthships, yoga courses and the like. anyone who can teach me something new will be my hero :)

I have travelled extensively, all over western Europe, South America, South Africa, New Zealand, Fiji, Vanuatu, Bali, Western Australia, Victoria, some of the USA and Canada, and a sprinkling of places in between. The problem with travelling is you always want to see and experience more!

PHILOSOPHY

Meeting people, making new friends, experiencing all that life has to offer and not annoying too many people in the process. If everyone lived like that the world would be a better place.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love hosting/meeting/surfing with people, and I tell every cool traveller I meet to sign up and contribute! Sites like this thrive on a healthy user base and I try my hardest to make sure everyone I convince to sign up is cool and active. Recently haven't been actively hosting or surging, but I've been to some meet ups.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I've only ever had phenomenal experiences with couchsurfing, from the people I've hosted or met up with for beers and from the really tight Perth couchsurfing community. My couchsurfing in South America was incredible, the communities vary from huge and active (Buenos Aires, Argentina) to small and active (Puerto Montt, Chile), and always tons of fun.

Interests

I love travel and so on, but I also really like movies, the beach, taking random trips to random places (driving holidays are probably my favourite thing in the world), having drinks with mates and barbecues on the beach. Scuba diving, trekking, skiing, hallucinating, I love adventure sports and anything of that ilk.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I really love electronic and dance, things like Dan Deacon, Caribou, Goose, Justice, The Presets, Cut Copy, Chemical Brothers, The Knife etc. However, I also like anything alternative - Grizzly Bear, Wild Beasts, Mogwai, Beck, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Cold War Kids, Devendra Banhart et al warrant special mention! I can't stand mass-produced pop music or Aussie hip hop.

Movies: Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind, The Wrestler, Donnie Darko, American Psycho, Closer, Clockwork Orange, Citizen kane...

Books: I love trashy sci-fi and fantasy, but also really like things like Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting series and anything Bret Easton Ellis has written. My favourite book of all time is probably "Catch 22" or maybe "The World According To Garp". Really loved "The Life of Pi", "In Patagonia", "Kingdom of Fear" by Hunter S. Thompson, and "Birds Without Wings" by Louis de Berniers. Recently read and loved "Down and Out in Paris and London" by George Orwell, highly recommended!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the best experiences of my life is from my time travelling across South Africa; I hired a car and met up with a friend, and we drove from Johannesburg to Capetown by ourselves. Driving around South Africa is absolutely amazing, the countryside is so varied and has such a wonderful culture and interesting (if quite disturbing) history. The most amazing moment of that trip was the time I took a "shortcut" on the map, which should have cut hours off our trip. Turns out that shortcut was Prince Alfred Pass, a rather treacherous mountain pass with a single lane gravel road and mountains and cliffs on either side. Amazing doesn't do it justice. Shame my friend was afraid of heights!

Teach, Learn, Share

Some Swedish if you're interested. Also I'm great in pub quizes, I know all sorts of useless information.

I love to learn anything if its something you're passionate about! The most boring topics are interesting coming from someone who loves them.
