ABOUT ME

I am think I can say friendly (mostly), but sarcastic, with a somewhat dark sense of humour and a great taste for horror. I also like the awkward feeling getting out of my comfort zone, meeting people who would not exactly be from my social circle. It is always good to get some perspective about the world out there, especially for us scholars. I am glad to help out travellers. Right now, I'm working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Wits University. I live close to Melrose Arch, which gives you access to the Gautrain bus. The neighbourhood is lovely but mostly residential. Gay or not, you are all welcome, but you must be open minded and gay friendly. I live with my partner so you must be ok with that.

I do love hosting. But please do not write to me if you think CS is all about getting free accomodation. This is not the idea! CS is about sharing! That does not mean I want anything material from you, but I am certainly not running a hostel here. Mutual respect and appreciation comes first. ALSO, PLEASE TRY TO NOT SEND REQUESTS THE DAY BEFORE, IT IS FRUSTRATING.

Movies: A lot of movies, I'm totally adicted to cinema. I love Kieslowski, Almodóvar, Kim ki-Duk, Wong Kar-Wai, Kurosawa, Lars von Trier, Godard, Amos Gitai, Fernando Meirelles, Gus van Sant, Tony Gatlif, Alea, Win Wenders, and much others. Between my favourite movies: Waking Life, Todo sobre mi madre, Elephant, Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios, Amarelo Manga, Kolya, Eternity and A Day, La Double Vie de Veronique, Dancer in The Dark, La Dolce Vita, La chinoise, Notre Musique, Free Zone, Terra em Transe, among others.
Music: I'm very ecletic about music, and like specially those kinds that may mixture different origins, trends and matrixes, specially acid jazz, eletronic and "world music". Right now I've been listening to a lot of South African music, and also The Knife and Fever Ray. I also love soundtracks, like: The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Darjeeling Limited, Jackie Brown, etc.
Literature: I'm a fan literature as well. I'm very touched by the powerful and sensitive expression of brazilian writter Clarice Lispector. I also like more canonical writter as George Orwell, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Virginia Woolf, and other. I'm also very interested in erotic literature. Rigth now, I'm enjoying african literature in portuguese language, specially a mozambican writter, Mia Couto, and an angolan one, Pepetela. I also love japanese comics (manga), especially shojo manga. My last discovery was Murakami, and so far I've adored everything I read.

There are sooo many things. Every moment in a amazing in a way. Every memory precious. The sunset in Sahara. Picasso's, Dali's paintings. Duchamp's stuff. Accidental whale watching in Cape Town. Lisbon's narrow streets and people's swearings. A bath in the Indian Ocean. Istanbul's mosques. The untranslatable feeling of "saudade", as expressed in fado music. A night train between Bucharest and Sofia. The power of culture. The world of historical, cultural and social experiences and shared memories of the portuguese speaking-world. Migration and hybridism. INTERCULTURALITY is the most amazing reality of our existence.
